Kerry Heritage Sites See Strong Visitor Numbers In 2023

HERITAGE sites in Kerry saw strong increases in visitor numbers over 2023.

The Office of Public Works (OPW) today announced visitor figures at its heritage sites around the country which exceeded 15.3 million, up from 15 million in 2022.

In Kerry, Ionad an Bhlascaoid – The Blasket Centre, saw a 58% increase in visitors in 2023 — 68,605 compared to 43,348 in 2022.

Derrynane House and Parklands saw 324,065 visitors, up from 288,267 in 2022; Ardfert Cathedral saw 12,398 visitors, up from 9,526 in 2o22; Gallarus Castle saw 49,800, up from 19,591 in 2022; Listowel Castle saw 12,468, up from 8,847 in 2o22; Ross Castle saw 116,587 visitors last year, up from 86,324 in 2022 and Scelig Mhichíl (Skellig Michael) saw 15,916 visit, up from 14,197 in 2022.

Visitors to An Bhlascaoid Mhóir (Blasket Island) were down from 12,000 in 2022 to 5,905 last year.
