TREND Micro, a security software with EMEA headquarters in Cork, is looking for Tralee and Kerry students to tell their digital story.

The 2017 ‘What’s your story’ video competition which awards  €8,000 in cash prizes, wants students and schools to get creative and share their online experiences using the theme ‘If you could change one thing about your digital life, what would it be?’

The international competition is in its’ sixth year. It runs across three continents and is part of the International Trend Micro Internet Safety for Kids and Families programme. This programme works to educate children, parents and communities about how to stay safe online. The programme has reached over 10,000 parents, educators and students in Ireland, promoting the safe, responsible and successful use of the internet and all things technology.

“There are so many good things about being online – easy access to information, social networks, gaming, apps, YouTube videos, online shopping, streaming music, the list goes on. But like anything else, it’s not perfect and there are inevitable downsides. We want this campaign to provoke thought and creativity among students across Ireland when making their video entries and we can all learn from each other as an online community in the process,” said Nicola Buckley, Programme Manager at Trend Micro.

Finalists will be decided by the public. Entries with the highest views and ratings will go forward to be reviewed by a panel of judges. All submissions will be judged on their ability to inspire, as well as how effectively entrants have promoted their entries through the positive and clever use of social media.

The closing date for entries is April 4 and winners will be announced on May 2. For more information or to submit a video, visit their website.
