GARDAI in Kerry are warning the public about an email phishing scam after a woman in the county was conned out of €2,000.
The email purports to be from telecommunications company Eir contacting customers to inform them they are due a refund on their bill.
They direct customers to a website where people can key in their bank account details to claim back the money.
However, it’s a scam and the thieves then drain money from the accounts. Gardai say one woman in the county has been caught by the scammers to the tune of €2,000.
The email address is email@example.com and gardai are asking people who receive emails from this address to ignore and delete them.
