THE parish of Moyvane is fast gaining a growing reputation for hosting some well-known names in concert and this year promises to be no exception with the arrival of leading entertainer and RTE personality Aonghus Mc Anally to the Church of the Assumption on Tuesday, May 21st.

Aonghus is widely known for a variety of achievements through his career and the concert promises to be a musical journey through the songs that have shaped his life and career in music, ranging from his own rock group ‘Mushroom’, to a varied television career including ‘Wanderly Wagon’ and ‘Anything Goes’ and is the producer in charge of the RTE Radio programme ‘Liveline’.

He is also widely celebrated for his sell-out show featuring the songs of Tralee’s own Christie Hennessy.

Aonghus will be accompanied on stage by violinist Denise Doyle playing some of her classical melodies and musical director Ivan McKenna on Keyboards.

This is the latest fundraising brainchild of local parish priest Father Kevin McNamara who aims to build on previous successful concerts by Phil Coulter, The Three Tenors and Michael English.

However, he describes the event as a concert with a difference. “It is a different style of concert to what we all have been used to. It will have stories, laughs, very special music and songs we all know. You will enjoy it, be assured of that. You can help by taking some tickets to sell to family, workmates etc. You can support by buying a ticket and committing yourself to be present. You could also take a poster to put on display at work or your local shop,” Fr McNamara explained.

The concert takes place on Tuesday, May 21 at 8pm. Proceeds go to Parish of Moyvane Restoration Fund . Tickets are available through the local parish office (068) 49308, local shops and all weekend masses.
