UNDER 6 BOYS & GIRLS

We had a fantastic turnout last Sunday with loads of new faces and all eager to learn. The training session was very successful under the supervision of our 7 experienced coaches. The highlight was of course the obstacle race. Hope to see all again next Sunday

UNDER 8 BOYS

John Mitchels U8 Boy’s had another great training session last Sunday. In this session we concentrated on small sided games insuring everyone got a touch on the ball which is most important. Training continues this Thursday evening from 5.30pm to 6.30pm All New Players Welcome.

UNDER 10 BOYS

We had a great turnout to both the Thursday evening & Sunday morning sessions last week. The Thursday session for both u8s & u10s is being run by former Kerry minor trainer Séan Greaney & it’s fair to say that the large crowd went home tired but happy last week. Sunday mornings session started with a hand passing, soloing, hopping & running drill, followed with a pickup, & balance drill. As usual we finished off with the highly competitive game which strangely ended in a draw again. There are some challenge games coming up over the next few weeks but for now the training sessions are on Thursdays at 5.30pm & Sunday mornings at 10.30 am.

UNDER 8 & 10 GIRLS

A lovely sunny morning in Ballyseedy on Sunday last saw a good turnout for training and there was plenty of activity during the session. The improvement in skills been noticeable over the past few weeks from the girls, who have been busy practicing at home between sessions. After Sadhbh took the girls through a thorough warm up, there were ball handling skills, followed by some one on one defending drills. The session ended with a game and Aisling, Millie, Hannah and Ava shone, as did Alannah, Aeibhin, Maddison and Kate. Also, to the fore were Roisin, Layla, with some excellent scores, as well as Aideen.

Training continues in Ballyseedy next Sunday at 10.30am. All are welcome.

UNDER 12 BOYS

All roads led to Ballyseedy last Sunday evening for the final round of the U12 county League Division 1. Both our Green and Gold teams were both in contention for honours so an exciting evening was in store. The Gold team were facing off against a similarly unbeaten Churchill side, to decide the destination of Division 1B. Opening exchanges were tight with both teams displaying nerves with a lot at stake. The Golds were doing well with possession but a few bad wides meant that by the water break we were only a point clear. The Golds put this to right in the second quarter though, tagging on some nice scores to leave us clear by 7 at half time. Churchill continued to try hard in the second half but we were able to tag on a few more score to leave us victors in the end by 3-15 to 1-5 and DIVISION 1B CHAMPIONS!! Well done to all the lads who played on the Gold team through the year. To go through a season unbeaten doesn’t happen very often but to do so in Division 1 of the county league is a huge achievement.

Our Greens were facing a stiff task also against Churchill, who were unbeaten thus far in Division 1A and had impressively beaten Laune Rangers previously. Churchill were very much in the ascendancy in the opening quarter, playing with a slight wind advantage they went a few points clear early. We battled back well though the level 4 points each at the water break. The game ebbed and flowed in the 2nd quarter and we had a lucky escape with Churchill hitting the post when in for a goal. At the other end we responded with a great goal to be level at half time.

The second half continued to be hard fought with some great football played by both sides. The Greens gradually started to gain the upper hand and went into the final water break 3 points clear. Churchill never gave up and responded with a fine goal in the final quarter to set up a nervous final few minutes. A few quickfire points and fine defending at the other end saw us take the spoils by a final score of 2.14 to 1.09 and joint DIVISION 1A CHAMPIONS! This group of lads don’t just have talent but character too – having lost the opening game in Division 1A, they responded as great teams do and won all remaining games.

All in all it was a great evenings football with all 4 teams offering up some fantastic football. Well done one more to all players, mentors and not forgetting the parents who travelled the length of the county the past few months bringing the lads to the games. Without your support evenings like this would not be possible.

Training continues Thursday at 5.30 and we hope to organise a few challenge games before the end of the season

UNDER 14 BOYS

On Wednesday the 9th sept we played our final group game of the year away to St Senans in Mountcoal from the throw in our grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and got off to a great start with some excellent scores and some top class attacking play we led at half time by 10pts in the second half we picked up where we left off our midfield dominated from the start with Sean Corkery and Darragh O’Callaghan firing on all cylinders everyone from 1 to 15 didn’t put a foot wrong to be honest ending up with a final score of JM 3-19 St Senans 2-10 I’d like to thanks all the players and managers for their time and effort throughout the season nà misteallaig abú.
