Senior Men

Our senior men faced Ballydonoghue away on Saturday evening at 7pm. Ballydonoghue got the score board going 1.28mins in from play followed a minute later with Mitchels first score coming from James Duggan with a free.

There was a couple of wide’s from play on both sides, but Mitchels scored some fabulous points from play by Cian Holden and James Duggan.

Defense held strong as it took Ballydonoghue to score again 10 mins in with a free. Both teams receiving a yellow card in the first half but there was only one point in it by the half time whistle. Mitchels were outscored at the start of the second half with 3 points and a goal within the first 10 mins.

Mitchels spent the next 10 minutes chasing the game but got back scoring again in the 20th minute of the second half with another excellent score from James Duggan. Unfortunately, due to too many wide Mitchels had run out of time but put up a great battle.

Final Score John Mitchels 0-11 Ballydonoghue 1-12

Senior Men Development League.
Seniors are away to Kenmare on Saturday 6th of May a 7pm

Senior Ladies
Donal Curtin Cup Round 3.

John Mitchells travelled to Abbeydorney last Sunday to play their third-round game in the Donal Curtin Cup.  On a beautiful sunny morning the home side started in blitzkrieg fashion with a couple of early goals and a few points.

Points from Lily Parker and Aoife O Brien helped John Mitchells to steady the ship and with Sarah Kilgallen and Simi Ogubesa getting on top in midfield they reduced the leeway with further points from Ava Buckley and another from Lily Parker.

Abbeydorney added a few more scores but great work by goalkeeper Emma Lynch and Emma Carmody and Julie Foley in the full back line helped to relieve the pressure.

John Mitchells playing into a stiffish breeze in the second made a few changes and the introduction of Tanya O Connor seemed to organize the side whose half back line of Lucy O Donoghue, Shannon Martin and Clara O Dowd began to push the Abbeydorney side on the defensive.

Aoife O’ Brien added 2 quickfire points as did Ava Buckley and Emelia Brusnik was then fouled following a great solo run to allow the accurate Diana O’Keeffe to reduce the arrears still further with a pointed free.

Mitchels kept on the offensive and were again rewarded when Diana O’Keefe was fouled, and Lily Parker scored a point from the resulting free.  Abbeydorney kicked a few late scores to run out worthy winners in the end.

Plenty positives to be taken from the game from the John Mitchells point of view and we will now move on to round 4 of the competition where we look forward to a trip away to Southern Gaels in a fortnight’s time.

Training continues on Thursday night at 7.15, can as many players as possible attend training and as always new members are always welcome.

Under 11 boys
This week our U11 boys were away to Laune Rangers. The game was played in great spirit by both sides and produced some of best football of the year. Both sides had their purple patches but when we put our minds to moving the ball fast, we got plenty of scores. Thanks to Laune Rangers for hosting us and next week will be last game in Phase One of the County Leauge at home to Rathmore.

Under 13 Boys

The U13 Gold team fell to a strong Stacks team, this was our first defeat in the Championship for the boys, Stacks took an early lead with some excellent shooting, but their defense was well on top also and kept us scoreless for most of the first half. We rallied well in the second half and got close, but Stacks pulled away at the death. Final score of 3:07 to 3:14 in Stacks favor.

The U13 Green team were a pleasure to watch as the shackles came off, some excellent points were taken and two superb goals early on by Liam Corkery which saw us leading by 6 at the half.

Stacks came out strong in the second half and got within 3 points, but the lads turned it on again late on and pulled away with Ronan, Eddie, Calvin and co tapping over scores. Final score line of 3:14 to 2:07 in Mitchels favor.

.

Under 15 Boys

On Wednesday evening last we made the short trip to Killeen to face a strong Na Gaeil side in what proved to be a very tough test for us.

Having already qualified for the semifinal the result was irrelevant, which ment everyone got a run out on the night.  School football, and other commitments gave everyone valuable minutes on the field losing out on a final score of Na Gaeil 3-11 John Mitchels 0-08pts.

We will continue to train next week evenings and times to be confirmed. Parents will be notified through whatts app. With the Feile qualifier fast approaching we will need everyone at training. We would like to wish Calvin O’Sullivan a speedy recovery from a recent injury he picked up with the u13s it will give him a very well-earned rest and hopefully come back stronger.

Our Main Field has been reopened for games and academy. Many thanks to our field Committee for doing their best to get it back open, please continue to train on training field.

Fixtures
Please note that all fixtures can be changed so check our media outlets for notice of changes.

Senior Team

The Credit Union SFL: Division 1 Round 5.

Dr Crokes: 0-14
Ballymacelligott 3-09

Seven minutes into the first half Ballymacelligott were leading by 1-1.  Crokes drew level ten minutes into the second half. The Ballymac lads did not falter. Dr. Crokes never took the lead.  Ballymac went on to win the game by four points despite the pressure from The Killarney side.

It was a fab day for football on Sunday afternoon in Lewis Road. The Pitch was perfect and there was a nice crowd despite the rally of the lakes and the resulting traffic jams.

Within seven minutes of the throw in Ballymac were in the lead by two points. Vinnie Horan got Ballymac’s second point, won the kick out, and played the ball to Donal Daly who found the back of the net.

Billy Courtney scored two points from frees for the home side. Three points followed from Ballymac.  One from play by Niall Collins. A free from Vinnie Horan following a foul on Adam Sheehy.

Dr. Crokes were heading for goal when Aidan Breen intercepted, passed the ball to Adam Sheehy who was again fouled and Aidan Breen made no mistake when he took the free and put the ball over the bar. With fifteen minutes gone, Ballymac were in the lead 1-05 to 0-2.

Two points from play from Brian Looney and Mikey Casey and a free taken by Billy Courtney reduced the visitors’ lead. In the twenty-fourth minute.

Things looked bleak for Ballymac when Dylan Dunne, who was having a superb game, was injured and had to be taken off.

A great turnover by Ballymac led to a point from Donal Daly, three more from Crokes followed. Aidan Breen scored a point from a free just before half-time. Half Time score: Dr. Crokes 0-8 Ballymac 1-07

A point each for both teams, followed by two points from play from Dr Crokes courtesy of Billy Courtney and Harry Potts brought the teams level going into the last quarter.

A great catch at centre field by Ballymac led to a great pass to Niall Collins from Vinnie Horan and Collins made no mistake and rattled the back of the net. Crokes were not perturbed and forged on up the field and a great save by Ballymac keeper Christy Leen stopped them from going into the lead.

Adam Sheehy had to go off injured and his replacement Adam Joy got a point with his first kick of the game from a ball from Eoin Creedon who had caught a ball intended for the opposition. A red card for Dr. Crokes meant they had 14 men for the last three minutes and five minutes of added time.

Crokes scored a point and the kick out was caught by Daire Keane who played a lovely ball to Vinnie Horan, who saw a clear path in front of him and scored a goal.

Another point from a free from Crokes just before the final whistle left the full-time score Dr Crokes 0-14 to Ballymacelligott 3-09.

This was a great team effort by the Ballymac lads with veterans Vinnie Horan, Aidan Breen, and Michéal Reidy leading the way with spirit and never say die attitude especially when it counted.

Brave and unselfish players like Adam Sheehy, Darragh Sweeney, Dan Shea, and Diarmuid Galvin, running off the ball and opening spaces for their teammates made a big difference to the overall team effort.

Well done to the team and management. Our deepest sympathies to our loyal physio Mark Thompson and his wife Aileen on the death of Aileen’s dad Maurice Roche. May he RIP.

We wish a speedy recovery to our players injured today: Dylan Dunne, Adam Sheehy, and Diarmuid Galvin.

Scorers: Niall Collins (1-1,) Vinnie Horan (1-4,) Aidan Breen (0-2) Donal Daly (1-1,) Adam Joy (0-1)

Gold Team

Ballymacelligott v Dromid Pearses– Minor Central Region Div 5

Ballymacelligott 4-11

Dromid Pearses 2-07

Our Minor Gold team played their first game in the Central Region Division 5 away to Dromid Pearses on Monday 24th April.

The first half of this game was an even affair with noting really between the teams and when the first half was played out the scores were tied at 1-04 a piece at the short whistle. The Ballymac goal coming in the 25th minute by Luke Griffin.

Ballymac really kicked into to gear after the break and put in a great team performance to score 3-07 in the second half.

The killer burst coming in a three-minute period between 48th and 51st minute with a goal from Ciarán O’Connell and a further two goals coming from Luke Griffin to complete his hat-trick.

From here Ballymac closed out the game in comfortable fashion to win by 10 points. In what was great scoring, it must be noted that Ballymac scored 4-10 from play out of the 4-11 scored in total.

Great credit must go to the lads who put the disappointment of the county league final defeat behind them from the previous week and got back to winning ways with an outstanding second half showing. The Gold team now have weeks break as they have a bye week.

Luke Griffin (3-00) Ciaran O’Connell (1-01)

U5

Under 5 boys and girls had a fun energetic session on the astro turf on a beautiful morning. They worked on agility, balance & coordination through evasion & weight bearing fun exercises all to develop their movement patterns. Ball skills are coming on well with some great kicking on display.

Keep practicing with a soft ball / balloon at home to get the timing of the kick. Thanks to our older player mentors Grace, Ailbhe, Thomas & Hugh for helping out with the session & leading by example! Welcome to any new families who have recently joined us. More are always welcome! Very well done to our enthusiastic player of the week duo Jack & Robyn! Gooo St Pats!!

U7

We had good numbers on Sunday last being back in the field. Excellent fun and skills worked on. Looking forward to next Sunday again and we might have a few go games kicking off shortly. Well done to Player of The Week to Cathal Scanlon.

U8 Girls

Well done to our U8 girls on a fast, fun session on Sunday Morning and to our newly joined Gaelic4Girls players who really added to the team. Congratulations also to Olivia our POTW for great teamwork and leading by example! Keep up the practice everyone.

U9

A great week for our U9’s, firstly we travelled west to An Gaeltacht Tuesday evening in big no’s to play in our first Go Game of the year. We played 3 fantastic games of football against our hosts. Sunday morning all the lads were back in training and had a great session working on their skills and in particular the pick-up! Well done to Darragh Moriarty who was this week’s Player of the Week.

U10 Girls

Great effort by everyone at Sunday morning’s training session, really enjoyable for all. Sophie Mulgrew was our deserving winner of player of the week, she has recently joined the team from our Gaelic4girls initiative and is a great asset to the Girls.

A few more weeks of training and we will be ready for our 1st game.

U11

The boys travelled to Ballyduff last Thursday and played through some miserable conditions to put in a gritty performance. Both games had different challenges but everyone put in an excellent effort. Sunday’s training had much better weather and gave us a great opportunity to work on our skills. The training match was a great contest and our new player Sean made an immediate impact with his effective marking and effort.

Our next game is away to Listry on Thursday.

We train again on Sunday at 12pm in Blennerville and remember to keep practicing skills at home.

U12 Girls

The girls were away to Na Gaeil on Thursday evening last .Well done to everyone on another great performance and coming away with a well-deserved win. It was great to see all our new and younger players playing superbly and all our forwards getting their names on the team sheet. We will train Tuesday from 6 to 7. Game at home on Thursday against Finuge/ St. Senan’s at 7.15.

U14 Girls

Training continues this week for the Girls, Tuesday evening.

U15

Congratulations to our u15 team who had a great win at home to Sneem/Derrynane/Templenoe/Tuosist on Wednesday last. St Pats had strong performances from Jack Costello at the back, Michael Enright at midfield and Darragh Murphy and Jack Flahive up front.

Conor Sheehan and Jack Cashman made a great impact off the bench and Jamie Bowler was an unused sub but has been scoring heavy for the B team who had a big win vs Kenmare on Friday 21st, where Rodhan Culloo was also outstanding.

We wish Gary Scollard a quick return from injury.

U17

Our U17’s St Pats/Kerins O Rahillys began their U17 Central Region Campaign against Sneem/Derrynane/Templenoe/Tuosist/Castlegregory on last Monday night, they came away with a great win for their first match.

Their Second game is away to Dromid/Waterville in Dromid at 3pm on Monday 1st of May.

Seniors

Our seniors played their Round 5 County League game last Sunday at home. This game was a much needed win after getting caught by small margins in the last few matches. With scoring coming fast from both sides from very early.

Luke Mulligan got the first score of the game with a point, Dr. Crokes B got a point from a free. Fergal O Brien got a quick scored goal on Dr. Crokes B goalie. Dr Crokes B players each got their own point, with a pass from Patrick Dowling, Fergal O Brien added another point to St Pats score.

The opposition got a point and quick goal which allowed Dr Crokes B to go ahead. St Pat’s next three scores came from Brian Murphy, Fergal O Brien and Patrick Dowling with a point each. These were St Pats last score of the game, more scores from opposition players getting a point each which ended the first half St Pats 1-05 Dr Crokes B 1-06

Dr Crokes B opened the first half with a point, three scores from Luke Mulligan, David O Callaghan and Fergal O Brien which were points.

With a free for Dr. Crokes B put over the bar which drew the game. Kieran Hurley got his point from a beautiful kick while under pressure, Dr Crokes B put their own point on the board soon after.

With an assist from Gary Savage, Patrick Dowling of St Pats kicked the ball over the bar to add to the scoreboard. A free from Fergal O Brien converting the kick into a point, opposition put another mark on the match with a point.

St Pats were next to score with three point’s unanswered two points from Fergal O Brien and one from Eoin O Carroll. One last point added to Dr Crokes B score the final whistle blew with the scoreboard reading St Pats 1-14 Dr Crokes B 1-11

Seniors:

Kilcummin were the visitors to Strand Road on Sat evening for round 5 of the county league.

A game of two halves it certainly was not but in an extraordinary last quarter, the visitors managed to fashion a win which for the most part seemed highly unlikely.

We started with Shane Brosnan at full back in place of the injured Ross O’Callaghan and had built up a seven point lead, 1-04 to nil after 17 mins with Darragh O’Connor netting – from here to the half time whistle, we tacked on another two points with Kilcummin adding 3, to leave the half time score 1-06 to 0-04.

The second half saw Kilcummin add two quick points but once again, thanks to the dominance of David and Diarmuid around the middle we pulled away to add 6 unanswered points with the score now at 1-12 to 0-06 in the 45th minute.

We were not to score again and with Kilcummin threatening at every opportunity we conceded 2-05 to finish two points in arrears and the league points lost.

We have a break now until the weekend of 14th May when we travel to Rathmore to take on the locals – for fixture details please keep an eye on website/social media.

Our next game in Div 6A will take place on Sunday next, 7th May when we travel to Tuosist where the game will throw in @ 2 pm – again, keep an eye on social media as this is subject to confirmation due to Kerry’s clash with Clare.

Juveniles:

Another fun filled morning was had by all in Ballyrickard. The laughter and enjoyment could be heard echoing throughout the pitches and further afield, it’s fair to say they could be heard for miles around.

We are delighted with the huge numbers in attendance in each age group and it’s lovely to see so many children enjoying the sport we all love so much. Training will continue every Sunday morning in Pat Healy Park Ballyrickard.

Huge thank you to our main Sponsor Ballyseedy Home and Garden Centre for their continued support. Please ensure you have paid your membership through clubzap, if you are having any difficulty please contact us.

We will be using clubzap for all communication regarding your child’s group so please make sure you keep an eye on it. New members are always welcome to join our Club and be part of the Kerins O’Rahilly family.

U5 Boys

The enthusiasm and concentration from this bunch of boys is amazing. Every week they bring huge energy to training and listen carefully to their coaches. Keep up the good work boys and Don’t forget to practice as much as you can during the week. We’ll see you all next week.

U6 Girls:

We had a great training session Sunday morning with the U6 girls. We had two new girls Aisha and Eabha. A very warm welcome to both girls to the team. We did loads of running and running holding the ball. We’re going to practice throwing the ball against a wall and catching it at home during the week and we will see you all again next week.

U7 Boys:

Another great session in Healy Park Ballyrickard on Sunday. We welcomed a few newcomers, Melvin & Abraham, who are both very welcome to the team. The boys thoroughly enjoyed the session where we worked on our basic skills, had some fun, mobility games and finished with mini 5 a sides. The boys were encouraged to get out and practice during the week to help them improve even more.

U8 Girls:

The girls were full of energy and fun. We practised our handpassing playing a new game called Beat the Ball which the girls really enjoyed. There was a huge improvement in the girls skills and focus when it came to the game. Today saw very few girls standing still with everyone getting stuck in and looking to play! Overall a very enjoyable session for both coach and girls.

U9 Boys:

Fantastic effort from the U9 boys at this week’s training session! We focused on passing skills and played lots of games. We’re delighted to welcome new member Ryan to the team! All boys are encouraged to practice kicking with both legs this week. The next Go-Game will be Tuesday 9th May at 6:15pm in Na Gaeil. See you all for training next week.

U10 Girls:

Another great session was had by all. We did a warm up that included improving our skills and working with the ladders and hurdles. We played a couple of fun games. We also did some drills that worked on both attacking and defending and finished off with a 10 a side football match which was very competitive.

U11 Boys

Our U11 Boys had two fantastic games against listowel last Thursday evening in Listowel. Fantastic football played by both teams was a joy to watch. Well done to all. The boys also enjoyed their training on Sunday morning in preparation for their next game against Kilcummin on Thursday 4th May at 6.30 pm in Ballyrickard.

U13 Boys:

Our U13 boys were delighted to welcome SAM to their training session last Friday evening.

The U13 B team played Cordal on Sunday evening, This being their only team in the County League Cordal won on a score of 5-14 to 0-4. The boys showed great teamwork and fight and never gave up but we simply couldn’t contend with their 8 or 9 powerful players. Boys we are very proud of each and everyone of you

Minors:

Kerins O’Rahillys/St. Pats minors had a very emphatic win over a spirited Sneem Derrynane Templenoe Tousist combination in the first round of the central league.

The experience of playing in Division 2 of the county league was clearly of huge benefit to our lads as the speed of thought, ball and man left our opponents at 6s and 7s.

We will have sterner tests ahead of us and will need to maintain these high standards for ourselves if we are to achieve similar impressive results. Next round is a tough trip away to Dromid Waterville.

Juvenile Fixtures for week beginning 1st May:

U17 Central Region Div 5 KOR/St.Pats V Dromid/Waterville Monday 1st May at 3pm in Dromid

U11 Go Games KOR A&B V Kilcummin A&B

Thursday 4th May at 6.30 pm In Ballyrickard

A bumper week of football ahead for our Narriettes!

Crossing our fingers and toes for a break from the continuous rain has definitely helped as pitches throughout the county have dried out and hardened up.

We have Féile to look forward to on bank holiday Monday for our U15s. On Tuesday our U12s have their first home game while our minors make their way to Knockanure for their first match of the division 3 Co. League.

Then on Wednesday the U16s are away to Beale while on Saturday our U14s are away to Killarney Legion in the NCP Co. League. Our senior ladies have a back game to play v Currow and are away to Fossa the following week.

Training will continue also during the week as usual.

We can’t keep up and it’s a great complaint ! It’s wonderful to see a hive of activity on all pitches everywhere.

Best of luck to everyone and remember to come out and show your support!

U12 GIRLS

The U12 girls from Strand Road and Ballymac served up a cracking match last Monday evening in round 2 of the North Kerry League. There was a terrific turnout for the fixture with everyone getting game time.

A great game was evenly contested by both sides.

There was a huge effort put in by each player…we were pipped at the post by a late goal . We are starting to see real improvement and progress in everyone. All of the hard work put in by each of you at training is beginning to come through on the pitch. Keep it going girls, we are so proud of you!

Congrats to Ballymac!

Ballymacelligott 2-06

Kerins O’ Rahillys 1-06

U14 GIRLS

Terrific training sessions again during the week.. plenty of hard work put in by all during training. There’s great spirit, character and determination in this team which is standing to the players as they are producing impressive displays of football at each game .

We are away to Legion in Rd. 5 and also have a back game to play v Na Gaeil. More details to follow once confirmed.

A warm welcome to Sorcha, great to see you back. We hope that you’ll enjoy playing and make many great friends along the way.

Well done to Lily ,Aoife and Allie who were in action for the Kerry Ladies against Cork last Saturday afternoon in Mallow, not to be on the day for the U14 Kerry Ladies in the Munster LGFA B final but wonderful times and camaraderie over the past few months.

Best of luck to the U15 girls and management as they make the short journey to Ballyrickard to partake in Féile Peil Na nÓG on Monday. There are three Féile divisions this year for Kerry. Best of luck to everyone!

U16 GIRLS

Our U16s will take a trip back to Beale on Wednesday for Round 3 of the Co. League ! Throw in will be at 7pm. in Bob Stack Park, Ballybunion. Best of luck ladies and also to their coaches Mike and Dan.

MINORS

The wait for  Kerins O’ Rahillys minor ladies is over!

This week sees their first match in the Co. League take place… between pitches being unplayable and many TY students having their Gaisce walk during the week it just wasn’t possible.

The team has been training long and hard and can hardly contain their excitement.

Looking forward to seeing plenty of support as always on Tuesday, May 2nd when our ladies take on Moyvane at 7p.m. in Knockanure.

We wish the team and management the very best of luck. John Nix is this year’s manager.

SENIOR LADIES

A proud moment for Kerins O’ Rahillys Club…. Our ladies club is going from strength to strength as was seen with our large numbers for last Friday’s round 3 of the Donal Curtin Cup. A huge thank you to all of our hard working coaches from Academy upwards over the years who have made this possible. Many of this team have been playing with us since they were U6s.

D’imir foireann na mban in aghaidh Daingean Uí Chúis dé hAoine seo chaite.

Our senior ladies hosted Daingean Uí Chuís on Strand Road’s home pitch last Friday evening. We got off to a fast start with a few good scores. This continued with our ladies dominating throughout the first half.

The opposition looked like they had got back into the rhythm for the second half however it was short lived with great defending from our team…  great performance by our ladies . Many thanks to Daingean Uí Chúis who made the long journey in and best wishes to them for the remainder of the competition.

Thanks to Danny, our senior ladies proud manager who treated the team to food afterwards in the Klub..the girls enjoyed their team bonding!

KERRY LADIES

Congrats to the players, management and background team on their win over Waterford in Rd. 1 of the Munster Championship.

Well done to everyone, you were all very impressive. Keep up the great work and don’t forget to keep up the practice during the week. Thanks to Parents, Coaches and our new photographer Keith for the great photos.

U11 Boys: Well done to both under 11 teams who travelled to Spa, Killarney last Thursday evening and put on a fine display of football! Well done boys! Then the lads had a very productive training session yesterday in Killeen.

They practiced tackling without fouling and kicking and soloing with their weaker leg before a full pitch game. The boys now look forward to their last game of phase 1 in the county league away to Listowel on Thursday.

U13 Boys (Green Team): U13 County League Phase 1, Round 5. Thursday 27th April. Na Gaeil B 2-5 Legion B 2-2. Na Gaeil Green team finished off their County League Phase 1 with a three-point win against Legion.

The win means the men in green finished with three wins from five and played some fine football throughout. Conditions were slippery in Killeen and both teams struggled with their first touch.

When the game settled, Ben O’Sullivan and Paddy Hennessy clipped over two fine points. At the back, Seán O’Connell was finding his man expertly on his restarts.

Eoin O’Connor who had his best game of the year was ably assisted in the full back line by the ever-dependable Seán Óg Murphy and Jude Hogan who was having a gripping battle with the Legion full forward.

As play began to open up Kieran Felly reacted smartly to bury the ball after a goal mouth scramble. Rory John O’Brien and Nathan Anthony in the middle of the park were winning the midfield battle as the hosts led 1-3 to 0-1 at the break.

Donagh O’Connell opened the scoring in the second period and Na Gaeil seemed to be cruising. However, the Killarney men hit their purple patch and bagged 1-1 in two minutes to just two points between the teams.

Ephrem Falvey and Conor Reidy were stepping up in the half back line as was Ned Breen and Adam Fitzgerald who covered more than one position on the night.

As Legion pushed our lads back an O’Sullivan 45 dropped short and among a flurry of hands the ball ended up in the net. Goal machines Feely and Hennessy both claimed the goal as did O’Sullivan who dropped it in!!

Towards the end of the game, William Scanlon showed some lovely touches. Jonathan Sheehy who covered every run on the pitch moved to the backs and coupled with Donagh O’Connell at the back ensured the home side prevailed by three. Well done to all.

The U13’s are delighted to be going to the Munster football final on May 7th to see Na Gaeil stars Diarmuid O’Connor and Jack Barry in the flesh. Not to mention one of their own, Eoin Tansley who lines out for the Kingdom in the primary game at half time.

U15 B Boys: Our U15B team played Ardfert away last Monday night in the Co. League. It was Ardfert that got the better start and got early scores to put the pressure on our lads.

However as always we responded well and pushed Ardfert all the way to halftime for them to earn their lead. After scoring 2-4 in the opening 10 mins it was a much smaller margin at halftime after being reduced to 6 points, 2-9 to 2-3.

Second half was again a great display of football with both sides showing great skill and talent. Though we tried hard and could have closed the gap Ardfert just seemed to have an answer for all we put up to them. Final score was Ardfert 4-12, Na Gaeil 3-5.

U15 A Boys: Our U15A team hosted John Mitchels last Wednesday evening in the 3rd Round of Division 1 Co. League. To our boys credit they started really well and found themselves 4 points to the good after 10 mins.

Mitchels pressed hard and replied with some great scores but our lads responded well every time. Goals from Na Gaeil in the first half really set the tone and the workrate across the field earned Na Gaeil a 9 point lead at halftime.

The second half was similar with good football played by both sides. However goalkeeper Jacob Drzymala keeping a clean sheet was key to success and his defence working tirelessly to ensure he had all the support required was all crucial in this all-important victory.

Midfield dominated and supplied a forward line that did not disappoint in a final score of Na Gaeil 3-11 to John Mitchels 0-7.

U17 Boys: Last Tuesday night our u17 boys had the opportunity to play in Austin Stack Park when they took on Cordal/Scartaglen in the final of the Keanes SuperValu Division 4 County League. It was the third time the sides had met in the competition with the initial game ending in a draw and the second game resulting in an 8 point win for Cordal/Scartaglen.

Cordal/Scartaglen played with the aid of the slight breeze in the first half and opened the scoring before Na Gaeil added points from Conor Lucey, Liam Cooper and Man of the Match Mark Lynch to lead 3-1 after just 6 minutes.

This was followed by 2 wides apiece before Liam Cooper stretched the gap to 4-1 and Na Gaeil looked to be in the driving seat. The Cordal/Scartaglen forwards were finding it hard to penetrate the hard-working Na Gaeil defence and they kicked 2 more wides.

However on the 18 minute mark Cordal/Scartaglen’s pressure finally paid off when they got through for a goal to leave the sides level. It was a body blow to the Na Gaeil boys but they responded well with a point from midfielder Sean Barrett.

However this was followed by 3 wides in a row from our boys before Cordal/Scartaglen ended the half with a converted free to leave the sides level at halftime, Na Gaeil 0-5, Cordal/Scartaglen 1-2.

Mark Lynch and Liam Cooper made the most of the breeze to add 2 quick points to Na Gaeil’s tally just after halftime. But then Cordal/Scartaglen came to life and added 4 points without reply to put them 2 points ahead with 20 minutes remaining.

Na Gaeil looked to be in trouble but a free from Liam Cooper cut the gap to 1 point. Unfortunately the next 2 Na Gaeil attacks resulted in wides but our lads kept their heads. A well-worked move found its way to Peter Doyle and his shot sailed over the bar to level the game with just 10 minutes remaining.

The game was in the melting pot and the excitement now was at fever pitch. Both sides added 2 more wides each and it looked like extra time might be needed. On the stroke of full time Na Gaeil won a 45 after a great save by the Cordal/Scartaglen keeper.

Liam Cooper’s kick wasn’t a great one but it found its way to our vice-captain Sean Barrett who turned and fired it over the bar to the delight of the many Na Gaeil supporters present. But the drama didn’t end there. Cordal/Scartaglen mounted one last attack and won themselves a 45.

The ball was kicked in towards goal and the Cordal/Scartaglen forwards tried to work an equaliser but it was fitting that our dogged defence once more held out and cleared their lines. Final score: Na Gaeil 0-10, Cordal/Scartaglen 1-6.

Team: Iarla Ó hAiniféin, Daragh Morris, Kevin O’Donoghue, Cillian Griffin, Ruadhan Clifford, Jamie Schoenmaker, Conor Lucey, Peter Doyle, Séan Barrett (Vice Captain), Ruairí Ó hAiniféin, Jack Costelloe, Brian Heaphy, Mark Lynch, Liam Cooper, Paddy McElligott. Subs: Dan Maloney, Oisín O’Sullivan (capt), Séan Barry, Fionn Heaslip, Dara Cunningham. The players and management were delighted to receive shorts and socks prior to the game. A big thank you to Bord na nÓg and our treasurer Cathy Carey for sourcing them at very short notice.

Senior Mens Co. League: Round 5 of the League saw our senior team play host to Firies yesterday in ideal conditions. Firies started well despite playing into the breeze and got the first point of the game.

Kian Sheehan replied for us before Firies added their second. A Jack Sheehan point after 10 minutes levelled the game once again but then Firies took over, adding 6 of the next 8 points as the game neared halftime.

Dara Devine converted a free on the stroke of halftime which saw the margin cut to 3 points. The first 10 minutes of the second half failed to yield a score for either team but eventually Dara Devine pointed for us.

Firies added a point but 3 points in a row from Na Gaeil, the pick of them being a great score from Damien Bourke, had the sides level and it felt like Na Gaeil had the momentum. But again Firies hit back with a point to egde them in front once more, 10 points to 9.

A foul on Jack Sheehan saw Dara Devine level the game before Damien Bourke added his second of the day to put Na Gaeil ahead for the only time in the game.

On the stroke of full time Firies were awarded a penalty but their effort was well saved by Devon Burns and the ball was cleared to safety.

It looked like Na Gaeil would hold out for a valuable win but five minutes into injury time Firies converted a close in free to take a share of the league points.

Final score Na Gaeil 0-11, Firies 0-11. Team: Devon Burns, Jimi ÓSuilleabháin, Ryan O’Neill, Seamus Looney, Fergal Barry, Damien Bourke, Kieran O’Donovan (VC), James O’Connor, Tomás Ó hAiniféin, Seán O’Connor, Andrew Barry (C), Kian Sheehan, Kieran O’Connor, Dara Devine, Jack Sheehan. Subs: John Kearney, Eoin O’Neill, Eoghan Daly, Shane Kelly, Shawn Duggan, Shane Daly, Paul Burke, Jack Bourke, Declan Cooney, Rory Murphy, Tadhg Reen, Rory Reen, Seamus Looney, Seamus O’Neill, Liam Óg Kingston, Lorcan Seymour, Darragh Reen.

Tralee Parnells U12s that defeated Killarney last Monday in the 1st game of the season

U12 Camogie

There was a great start to the County league for our under 12 camogie team as they came out on top of a tight game with Killarney last Monday evening. Our girls started the game well, but back came Killarney, and it took some last ditch defending to secure the win. Plenty of improvement is needed, but a great start.

The girls train on Fridays in Caherslee from 6 to 7pm and new players are always welcome to come and try camogie.

Tralee Parnells Senior team that drew with Kilgarvan in Div 2 of the Co. League last Wednesday

Senior Hurling

Tralee Parnells 1-14 Kilgarvan 0-17

On Wednesday evening last, Tralee Parnells were on the road down south to take on Kilgarvan in Round 2 of Div 2 Co League. A good battle and a tight affair is always anticipated when these two teams face off. And last Wednesday evening that is exactly what was served up to us. Kilgarvan opened the scoring with a free.

However, it only took Parnells 4 minutes to raise the green flag thanks to quick thinking from Darragh Reen who took a quick free while the Kilgarvan defence were caught napping as he rattled the net. For the rest of the first half, the home side took control and converted a further nine points. At the short whistle, Kilgarvan led by five.

Half time Kilgarvan 0-10 Tralee Parnells 1-2.

Kilgarvan came out the of the blocks the faster to begin the second period but a never say die attitude from the Tralee men kept them in with a fighting chance. Coming down the final stretch Kilgarvan led by 2.

Parnells never gave up and with a minute and a half of normal time remaining Darragh Reen played a side line short as far as Eddie Sheehy who gave a short pass back to Reen to put over an inspirational score to reduce the margin to the bare minimum.

Kilgarvan hit a wide which gave Parnells one last chance to salvage something from this game. Mark Ryall went long with the puck out and the ball broke to Eddie Sheehy who bombed forward and split the posts to level the game in the 61st minute of the game.

Full time Tralee Parnells 1-14 Kilgarvan 0-17. Thanks to Eugene Stack for refereeing. A well-earned draw after a great team performance. The team are still unbeaten after 2 rounds. Next up is a home match on Wednesday vs Kenmare.

Team: Mark Ryall, Rory Reen, Tadgh Reen, Stephen Morrissey (0-1), Timmy Kelliher, Ruarí O’Sullivan, Darragh Keane, Darragh Reen (1-10, 1-5f), Eddie Sheehy (0-1), Oisín O’Brien (0-1) (Johnny Lowe), Darragh Maloney (Ian Moynihan), Barry Lyons (Cillian O’Riordan), Andrew Morrissey, Ronan Gilsenan (0-1), Cillian Litchfield

The lads are at home to Kenmare next Wednesday evening at 7pm in Round 3.

The team played very well creating good passages of play which lead to brilliant scores. In the end Parnells eased to victory on a scoreline of Tralee Parnells B 1-18 Duagh 0-7. Oisin O’Brien was top scorer with 0-10. Well done lads.

Kerrys Niamh Carmody leads the Waterford defence a merry dance during todays Munster Ladies Gaelic Football Munster Senior Championship Rd 1 game which was played in the Fraher field Dungarvan.

Waterford suffered an early injury blow, however, as Megan Dunford was forced off and replaced by Niamh Power.

Ní Mhuircheartaigh netted in first half injury time and the Corca Dhuibhne magician added another point before the interval, as Kerry led by four.
