Under 14 Girls

The u14 girls Green team was in action on Friday night in our last game of the u14 NCP Co League.  We hosted Dr Crokes and knew that a victory would see us qualify for the semi finals of the competition.
Dr Crokes were going to provide a significant test, and in addition John Mitchels were missing a number of key players. As a result a number of girls were from the Gold team got the call to help out and to a person, they were outstanding.
From the start the Mitchels piled on the pressure and kept it there, creating numerous scoring chances and restricting Crokes to very few chances.
Early goals for Kerri Falvey, Tara Dowling and further scores from Kerri and Amy Noonan pushed Mitchels into a commanding position.
Crokes came back into the game midway through the half, but Mitchels were in control and led comfortably at the half.
With a stiff breeze against them in the second half, Mitchels were expecting the Crokes to come back strongly, but an early goal from Kerri Falvey put Mitchels into a commanding lead, and they controlled the remainder of the half, with further scores from Caoimhe Nammock and a goal from Ciara Harris.
A well deserved win for Mitchels, with Amy Noonan and Rhianna O’Brien excelling in midfield, and Nicole Hennig and Hannah Roche outstanding in the half back line.
Captain Sadhbh Corkery commanded the defence with Gia Sharma also standing out. A special mention must go to Alannah Doody, Anna Marie Perkins and Ally Spring who got last minute call ups and played outstanding football, working hard and ensuring the standard never slipped.

u15 boys who took part in Feile on friday evening and saturday morning

Under 15 Boys

On Friday evening last we started our bid to qualify for the Feile competition 2023 our first game was against Na Gaeil which we won quite comfortably in the end.

Next up were Firies who proved to be very competitive leading by 2pts in the last minute, we switched off for a brief moment allowing Firies in for a late goal. We still qualified for the semi finals which was played in Austin stack Park on Saturday morning against a very strong Keel/Listry team leading by a couple of points at the break.

On the restart we found ourselves on the back foot conceding a penalty to trail by 2.The boys fought hard to bring the margin down to a single point. We had a free fall short with the last kick of the game and lost out by a single point.

Fair play to the boys they left it all out there on the day but it wasn’t to be. The boys have a league semi final coming up so we need to prepare for that. Seniors:

Round 6 of the county league takes place next weekend when we travel to Rathbeg ( P51 WR65) to play Rathmore; the match will take place on Sunday ( 14th) with a throw-in time of 14.00.

Rathmore sit one place ahead of us in the table on 4 points and will be formidable opposition on their home patch – however, if we perform to our potential we are well capable of taking the points.

Div 6A :

We made the long trek to Tousist on Sunday to play the locals and came away with an impressive 3-12 to 0-07 victory.

Due to lack of numbers by the homesters, the game was played as 13 a side with each member of our side contributing in his own way – Daniel Bowler goaled twice and veteran Johno Connor was the other goalscorer – Barry O’Shea made another comeback when lining out upfront.

Team: Rob O’Connor, Stephen Nix, Sam Pituch, Barry Foley, Aidan Mangan, Jordan Foley, Fenton Collins, Padraig Griffin, Johno Connor, Barry O’Shea, Daniel Bowler, Cody O’Shea, Sam McCarthy.

County Fare:

There was mixed luck for our mentors at the weekend when Kerry U20s, with Maurice Horan onboard, were beaten by Sligo in the All Ireland semi final – the third quarter was the critical period when we dominated possession but only registered two points from 7 scoring attempts.

Sligo now advance to the All Ireland final where they will play Kildare.

Micheál Quirke enjoyed better luck on Sunday when Kerry outclassed Clare in the Munster final running out easy winners on a scoreline of 5-14 to 0-15.

This was an emotionally charged occasion, sometimes surreal following the news of the sad passing of Ellen Clifford , mother of Paudie and David, on Sat – to their eternal credit, both brothers lined out and did their late mother proud with terrific displays.

Kerry will now play in Group 1 along with Louth, Mayo and Cork – based on the seedings Kerry will have home advantage in two weeks when they will entertain league winners Mayo, an away match on first weekend in June to Cork and then play Mickey Harte’s Louth, at a neutral venue on the weekend of the 17th June. Venues and dates will be available later from GAA HQ.

Juveniles:

Sunday mornings are made for football, well at least that’s what we think here in Kerins O’Rahillys Juvenile Academy and all the children who attended on Sunday seem to think so too. It’s great to see such large numbers throughout each group turn up every Sunday for training.

And we are still welcoming new members each week as we say our gates are always open and everyone is welcome to join our fantastic club. This week we must say a huge thank you to Jane Kerrisk of Ryles Pharmacy , Ash Street, who presented us with First Aid Kits for our Juvenile Academy. We truly appreciate this very generous contribution.

U5 Boys

Another energetic fun filled training session was had by this amazing bunch of boys. They practiced their skills through fun games and drills and showed their coaches how much they have improved in just a few weeks. Keep up the good work boys.

U6 Girls:

Fantastic session with our U6 girls on Sunday. Fitness really comes into our drills and the girls are well able to run. We worked on running backwards which is tricky but everyone made a fantastic effort. We practiced or hand passing and throwing as well and we look forward to another great session next week

U7 Boys:

The U7 boys are showing phenomenal skills and team work throughout their sessions. It’s easy to see that they are also practicing at home during the week which is key to improving your skills and ability. The boys are showing that no matter what the coaches ask of them they step up to the challenge and give it their all. Keep up the good work boys.

U8 Girls:

We had great numbers up at the U8s training despite communion celebrations. It was our biggest number yet this year. We had two new girls join us who did very well and we hope they enjoy been part of the team. Our understanding of the game is improving every week and the skills are progressing also. In the next few weeks we hope to put those skills to the test with some up and coming friendly go games so please make sure you check clubzap for updates.

U9 Boys:

This week’s U9 training session was snappy and action-packed, with a range of drills and small-sided games that kept the kids engaged and motivated throughout. Credit is due to the parents, who have clearly been working with their children at home to help them develop their skills. It’s clear to see that this group is improving every week. See you all Tuesday evening at 6pm in Na Gaeil for our next Go-game!

U10 Girls:

These girls are improving with every week that passes. They are becoming a mighty team with huge energy and enthusiasm throughout the field. We are looking forward to taking part in friendly go games in the coming weeks so please make sure to check clubzap for updates.

U11 Boys

U11 s played last Thursday against Kilcummin they played very well and showed great team work well done to all of the boys they should be very proud of themselves. We have no hand this week, that was the end of phase 1. We will have training this Thursday as normal. Hope to see everyone in attendance.

U13 Boys:

U13 boys had no games this weekend and will train as normal this Wednesday evening and Friday evening at 6.30pm in Ballyrickard in preparation for Phase 2 of the County League.

U15 Boys:

Div 9c V Keel/ Listry.

We travelled to Keel on Friday 28th April With only 13 boys available they gave a great performance. Our hosts were able to field a much stronger team and won out in the end.

Cian Daughton, Jamie Bowler, Ben Pierce and Sam Keane were our best performers on the night.

Div 5A v Dromid/Waterville.

We traveled to Dromid on the 3rd of May in what was a winner takes all duel in South Kerry.

From the off the hosts were difficult to break down and we could have made more of our early chances. The hosts were two points to the good after 15 min before we got a score from Darragh. The next 13 min we scored another 3 points when from a fortuitous break Darragh Murphy got an opening and managed to get a shot away, the keeper couldn’t get enough on it and the ball ended up in the net and we went in at half time a point to the good. 1-2 to 4 points.

The second half we came out all guns blazing with Ryan scoring straight from the throw in. From then on we dominated with goals coming from Ryan and Michael.

Chriatian Dunne and Daniel Mc Carthy also chipped in with a brace of points each before the hosts could reply.

Our second half performance won the day and the lads enjoyed the trip home.

Ruairi, Killian, Jack Costello, George Keane and Jack Flavhive all had good games.

Final Score Dromid/Waterville 0-5 KOR/ St.Pats 3-9

League section now complete with 4 wins out of 5 games played.

Feile Peil na nòg, held in Blennerville.

We contested the county competition on Friday evening with Ardfert been our first game up. We struggled to get scores early in this game that ultimately cost us in the match overall. We provided a stern test to Ardfert who are playing two divisions above us in the county league with Ardfert leading by a point at half time. KOR/St.Pat’s 1-1 to 5pts Ardfert.

Second half again we struggled to get a grip on the game around midfield and were wasteful with possession in our opponents half. We managed to get scores but weren’t able to match Ardfert’s physicality throughout and a late goal took the game away from us. Score KOR/St.Pats 1-5

Ardfert 2-7.

We played Northern gales in the second game and although we could still qualify we decided to give the younger boys a chance and they performed extremely well. Score NG 2-4 KOR/StP. 1-5. Ardfert won out by beating Northern gales in the third game.

KOR/St.Pat’s Squad For County League.

County League S/Final v Tarbert

Wednesday 10th May in Tarbert at 7pm.

Minors:

KoR/St Pats made the long trip to Dromid last Monday in R2 of the Central League and came away with a hard fought victory that wasn’t reflected in the final score. Dromid/Waterville fought tooth and nail for every ball and took the game to us, dictating much of the game. Our ability to get goals made all the difference and kept our harder working opponents at arms length. Next game is in Blennerville against St Mary’s/ Renard in round 3.

NÓTAÍ NA mBAN

All is quiet on the playing front next week with the exception of a few teams.

When it comes to football those of us who become totally engrossed in a match can allow our love, passion and competitiveness take over.

Back in March the LGFA launched its ‘Take a Second’ campaign aimed at encouraging and celebrating a culture of positivity and mutual respect for all.

Kerry star Anna Galvin is hopeful that it will have a long lasting impact across all grades of the association.

Unfortunately we have all seen supporters , players and coaches shouting abuse at referees and the opposition over the years . There’s no need whatsoever for this. It also filters through to the players.

Treat everyone with respect is the message. Go out and enjoy your football.

A video from the campaign highlights how it can only take one second to make a good decision as well as a bad one. Be that person who takes that second to think and make the right decision. Don’t roar, abuse or  lose your temper. There’s a human being at the receiving end.

Make the right call and keep our sport the wonderful game that it is . Take that deep breath, stop and think!

Silence is golden.’

We will share this ‘Take a Second’ campaign on social media and with our teams.

U12 GIRLS

Our U12s returned to winning ways in Pat Healy Park, Ballyrickard on Tuesday evening when they entertained Annascaul in rd. 3 of the North Kerry ,division 3 Co. League.

A superb opening two quarters from our home team, where they scored 2-03 with a response of 0-01 set the tone for a convincing performance and we emerged victorious on a score line of

Kerins O’ Rahillys 4-04

Annascaul 1-01

Some nice passing movements put together and overall a balanced performance from both teams.

Lots of smiles from our girls as they headed home last Tuesday evening. Well done to everyone!

Next Tuesday will see the conclusion of the North Kerry League for this age group when we take on Annascaul in the division 3 shield final. Throw in will be at 7pm. in Pat Healy Park, Ballyrickard. Embrace the challenge girls and the best of luck to everyone!

Goals key as Legion got the better of Kerins O’ Rahillys U14s last Saturday afternoon in Legion’s pitch, Direen , Killarney in round 5 of the NCP Co. League…

Our girls had a confident start getting the opening score. The first period of the game was an evenly matched affair with both teams exchanging scores. At half time we were leading by 2 points.

A determined home team emerged for the second half and Legion quickly jumped in front .

The home team struck with goals to take the spoils. Well done to everyone on putting in a gallant effort!

Congrats to Legion on their win and best wishes for the remainder of the competition.

On Thursday, May 11th we have a back game against Na Gaeil.

Throw in will be at 7p.m. More details to follow. Best of luck to the team and management.

CUMANN NA mBUNSCOL

Cumann Na mBunscol is an organisation that promotes Gaelic games to primary school children all over Ireland and beyond.

Pat Healy Park, Ballyrickard was a hive of activity last Friday morning as girls from Tralee and other parts of Kerry descended upon the venue for Cumann Na mBunscol.

It’s wonderful to see so many of our girls playing school football as well as club football.

Congrats to the girls and their coaches from Scoil Eoin who won their group and are now through to the semifinal of the Division 1 competition . In their next round they will play Killorglin. Best wishes to all!

FÉILE

Joyous scenes as our U15s claim the division 3 , Kerry Féile title again this year….

For the second time in two years , Kerins O’ Rahillys are Féile champs. That’s some going for a club that prior to 2022 haven’t represented our county since 2010 under the management of Kay and Paul Hayes.

Our ladies kicked off the competition with a draw against the blue and whites from Killorglin .

We played Finuge/ St. Senans in the second match and won.

In a thrilling final in Pat Healy Park,

Ballyrickard they saw off the brave challenge of Laune Rangers to win

1-02 to 0-04… a very close match.

Well done to all teams for playing such great and exciting football.

Féile games are an U15 competition and are played on a 15 a side basis with a maximum of 24 players.

Regional Féile is scheduled for Saturday, July 1st with venues TBC.

U16 GIRLS

The Kerins O’ Rahillys U16 ladies headed to North Kerry’s Bob Stack Park in Ballybunion last Wednesday for round 3 of the Co. League.

They got off on a good footing against Beale’s young ladies.

From the start goals seemed to be on our mind and even though we had the benefit of the breeze points seemed hard to find. The Strand Road ladies rallied strongly and at the interval the score was

Beale 1-01

Kerins O’ Rahillys 2-04

As the match progressed into the second half ,the opposition playing with the breeze kicked some good points. We continued to work hard but the Beale ladies would not be denied on their home ground and came out on top when this sporting contest between both talented teams ended. Congrats to Beale!

Full time score:

Beale 2-11

Kerins O’ Rahillys 3-06

In round 4 we are away to Laune Rangers on June 28th ( TBC.) This gap in fixtures is to allow for those who are doing their junior cert.

In the meantime there will be a non exam league for those who aren’t doing exams to keep you busy. Any player doing exams is also welcome to play if they wish but no pressure!

MINOR LADIES

Last Tuesday saw these ladies play their first game of the division 3 Co. League when they were away to Moyvane in Knockanure pitch. We started brightly and monopolised possession throughout the game. It was a very one sided affair as Strand Road proved too strong for the Moyvane team. A fantastic performance from our ladies who played some outstanding football.

Best wishes to Moyvane in the remainder of the competition.

We have two back games to play before the next round, dates tbc.

CONGRATS

Huge Congrats to Strand Road‘s minor Gráinne Diggin who was involved in the All Ireland winning Kerry Camogie team last Saturday defeating Down in the Minor C final in Clane, Co. Kildare. Well done to everyone!

U11 Boys: Well done to our under 11 squad who played superb football against Listowel last Thursday. This game marked the end of round 1 of the County League. Well done boys. Then the lads had a busy training session yesterday morning. We started with some running before moving on to mini games and finishing off the session with a full pitch game.

U13 Boys: A mighty day out was had by our U13s as they took in the Kerry v Clare Munster Final in Limerick yesterday. Luckily the weather stayed dry as the lads cheered on Diarmuid O’Connor, Jack Barry and their Kerry teammates.

At half time, one of our own, Eoin Tansley played for Kerry in the Primary Game, giving a typically tenacious and skillful performance. Well done to the lads on exemplary behaviour, the craic was mighty and it was super to see great memories being made.

U15 Boys Féile: On Friday last Na Gaeil under 15s played two group games in the Féile competition in John Mitchels. First up was a strong Mitchel’s side. An early goal for them put us on the back foot straight away and despite plenty of possession we found it difficult to create scores against a packed defense.

We worked very hard from our full back line right up to our forwards and heart will be taken from thedetermination shown by every player. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be for us on the day and Mitchel’s ran out deserved winners.

Next up was Firies, our second game on the night that began only minutes after the Mitchel’s game. Despite tired legs everyone gave an excellent account of themselves and we found scores much easier to come by than in the previous match.

Moving the ball quickly into the full forward line we got some excellent scores. Our backs defended heroically but the fresher legs of Firies got some early goals that proved decisive in the end.

Certainly some lessons were learned on the night but the attitude of everyone was superb and there is plenty more to come from this squad of players this season.

U15 A Boys: Last Wednesday evening our U15A team played the last group game in the Division 1 Co. League against Legion in Killeen. The prize for our boys was to top the group and earn a semifinal place in Division 1.

From the start we were down our regular goalie, Jacob, due to injury but credit to Fionn Daly who donned the number 1 jersey and did not disappoint. The game was a thriller from the throw in and both sides played great football. Our full backline of Donnacha Hartnett, Gearóid Moynihan and Jack Kelly were awesome and defended excellently against a very strong Legion full forward line.

However, Legion took their scores well throughout the first half with the aid of decent breeze and led at halftime on a score line of 1-09 to 2-03. Our two half backs, Philip McEneaney and Maurice Costello worked tirelessly all evening between the two 40’s and center back Cillian Griffin commanded our own 40 in defense and brought the game to Legion whenever he was on the ball.

Goalkeeper Fionn Daly had outstanding kickouts and found a Na Gaeil player almost every time. That solid platform was the reason our inside forwards Ryan Sheehy, Danny Kingston and Darragh Callaghan were delivered great early ball and were a constant threat against a strong Legion full backline and managed 2-07 between them.

Centre-forward Shane O’Donovan was the link player throughout the match and seemed to cover every blade of grass on the field. Midfield pairing of Samson Abubakar and Brian Heaphy were excellent also and working alongside our two wing forwards, Victor Malakov and Sean Óg O’Connor, together seemed unstoppable for periods of the match.

Despite owning the ball for most of the second half we found it difficult to convert possession into scores and the final score was Legion 2-10 and Na Gaeil 2-08. Subs were Eoghan Daly, Luke Gannon, Karl Cronin, David Buckley and Ruairí Lacey.

Karl Cronin was introduced for Victor Malakov just after halftime and Luke Gannon was introduced for Brian Heaphy who came off injured with 5 mins remaining. It was a tough one to lose but meant we finished 3rd in the group and rightly earned a home semifinal in Division 2 against Austin Stacks on May 10th at 7pm. Thanks to Legion for a sporting game and referee Paul Hayes for a great match also.

U15 B Boys: Na Gaeil B U15s travelled to Ballymac on Bank Holiday Monday evening and met a very strong Ballymac team. Ballymac got off to a very strong start catching us off guard with 2 fast goals.

Na Gaeil tightened up their defence and good play from centerfield and better passing movement got us back in the game but the pressure from Ballymac was relentless and they broke through with some accurate shots on goal.

Our second half performance improved but with 2 injuries and substitutes needed we again found ourselves under pressure and Ballymac finished strongly to win out the game.

U17 Boys: Last Monday night our u17 boys played their first game in the Central Region league when they hosted John Mitchels. Our lads who got off to a flier and led by 1-7 to 0-0 after 15 minutes but Mitchels then had the better of the second quarter to leave the halftime score Na Gaeil 1-9, John Mitchels 1-4.

The second half was very evenly contested with our lads just shading it and ran out winners on a final score of Na Gaeil 1-15, John Mitchels 1-9. Team: Iarla Ó hAiniféin, Daragh Morris, Kevin O’Donoghue, Jeaic Canty, Ruadhan Clifford, Jamie Schoenmaker,Cillian Griffin, Conor Lucey, Séan Barrett, Ruairí Ó hAiniféin, Dara Cunningham,Jack Costelloe, Brian Heaphy, Mark Lynch, Seán Barry. Tonight our lads are away to Castlegregory in Round 2 at 7pm.

Kelloggs Cúl Camp: The Kelloggs Cúl Camp will be held in Na Gaeil on the week commencing Monday 3rd July.

Hire the Hall: The hall in the clubhouse is available for parties or other events. Please email nagaeilclubhouse@gmail.com if you’d like to make a booking.

Very well done to all our boys & girls who joined in our under 5 session on the Astroturf on what turned out to be a dry Sunday Morning.

U10 Girls

Our numbers were down today due to some of the girls having communion celebrations but it didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the other girls. They demonstrated great skill at kicking points and goals and played a very competitive game. Our player of the week worked very hard and tackled with great heart and intensity.

U11

St. Pats under 11’s had no game last week but were training Sunday. Everyone put in a great effort especially Paddy, Jake, Dylan and Oscar. It’s important that all our player’s turn up to training and keep practicing their skills at home during the week. We’ll be in contact if there’s a game this Thursday. Updated fixtures will be published in next week’s notes. Training continues this week on Tuesday and Thursday evening.

U14 Girls

The annual community games took place on Sunday last in Cordal .The Blennerville area has a great tradition with community games football with two silver all Ireland medals in the club from previous years at Mosney.

This year the area widened which was a great addition to the team .Our First game was against a very strong Beaufort team but it didn’t take long for Blennerville to get going .A spate of quick goals from Amy Turner and Lily Breen got the ball rolling .

Our goalie Eve O’ Sullivan who was definitely the Goalie of the tournament bought off some great saves in the second half and along with a strong defence of Olivia Crean, Emily Corridon, Sarah Greaney, Alannah o Mahoney, Meaghan Barrero and Chloe Passway who defended to the very end got us over the line for a win.

Our midfield pairing of Amy Naughton and Lily Breen ran themselves in to the ground and both really stepped up when needed especially in the last game against Moyvane, which was extremely physical.

Our forwards over the four games played very well and for a forward line that have just been training for the last few weeks really gelled well together.

Amy Turner, Emma Okenwevere, Niamh Murphy, Roisin Sheehy, Kayla Reidy, Lily Hussey and Ashling O Mahoney all did very well and scored some great scores from play and Amy even scored a point from the 45m line .

The work rate of all the team was amazing to watch and considering they have never played together they did really well up against very strong teams who are playing together a lot .

The future of ladies football is in great hands with the players we had on the team today, they showed great heart and determination in all their games and did the community proud . Well done girls and we hope to see most of you again next year.

U15

Well done to our u15 team who competed in Feile on Friday evening in Blennerville.

After a titanic battle we came up just short against a strong Ardfert team who went on to reach the county final on Saturday. We had another great game against Northern Gaels and lost by a point.

This is a big week for our team as we play Tarbert away in the semi-final of the county league on Wednesday at 7pm. This was as a result of our best performance of the year, where we had a 3-7 to 0-5 win over Dromid/Waterville last week.

U17

Our U17’s St Pats/Kerins O Rahilly’s played away on bank holiday Monday, they had another great win. Well done to all involved.

Their third game is home to St Mary’s/ Renard in Blennerville at 7pm on Monday 8thof May.

Seniors

Our seniors play in their Round 6 in Credit Union County League on Sunday 14th of May, they play at home against Beale at 2pm.

Please keep an eye for any changes in O Shea’s Gala, Byrnesworth and St Pats Old Clubhouse.

Senior B’s

Our senior B’s are playing their Round 3 of the Development League at home against Ballydonoghue B on last Saturday Evening. Ballydonoghue was first to opening the scoring with a quick goal, Breandan Savage got our first point of the game.

With a goal and four points scored by Ballydonoghue which was made difficult by us, Conor Enright added a point to our score. With another goal scored by Ballydonoghue, Adam Hegarty executed a beautiful goal to rock the back of the net in the dying minutes of the first half. Ballydonoghue added one final point before the first half ended. St Pats B 1-02 Ballydonoghue B 3-05

Ballydonoghue began the second half with a point, Adam Hegarty added another point to his scoring. Four points unanswered by Ballydonoghue but Breandan Savage and Cillian Lynch each added a point to St Pats scoreboard. Ballydonoghue got another point with Breandan Savage adding the last score for St Pats With this half Ballydonoghue got a goal and a point with the final whistle blowing. Tralee Parnells U7s enjoying the blitz hosted by Dr Crokes Killarney

U7 Hurling

It was a busy week for our Under 7’s.  On Friday evening they completed their first training session at the ball wall of Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn which was a great experience and went down a treat.

On Saturday they travelled to Dr. Crokes in Killarney for a blitz where they faced teams from Dr. Crokes, St. Pats, Lixnaw and Kenmare. Our boys thoroughly enjoyed this blitz and the hurling skills they displayed were a pleasure to watch, they truly have gelled as a team. Thank you to Dr. Crokes for organising and hosting.

Congratulations to this weeks players of the week, from Friday night Ferghal Lynch and Seán De Hora Gumley and from Saturday Shay Brosnan and Seán O’Brien, well done all.

Tralee Parnells U14s Team One who defeated Ballyduff in the first round of the County League

U14 Camogie

This year the U14s are fielding two teams in the Camogie County league.  The squad had their first round of games on Monday evening.  Team one had a good win away against Ballyduff. It was a game where there was great skill and commitment from both teams.

The girls managed to take their scores at the right time and won out in the end. Thank you to Ballyduff for a good game and many thanks to Brian Shanahan for buying the 99’s afterwards in Ross’s Centra !

Team two also played away where they met Sliabh Luachra. Despite a great effort by everyone the result didn’t go their way.  It was a great experience for all especially for the Under 12 players who made the step up.

Austin Stacks GAA Club News

.

SENIOR FOOTBALL. Austin Stacks 4-6 (18); Dr. Crokes 2-17 (23).

We got off to the best of starts in this round 6 game of the Co. League played in Connolly Park on last Saturday evening (6th May).

Inside the 2nd minute Greg Horan won the kick-out, found team captain Shane O’Callaghan who passed to Seán Quilter and Seán blasted to the net for a brilliant goal.

But gradually Crokes recovered and by the 8th minute had equalized with three good points. Within minutes they went ahead with a goal and a point.

We reduced their lead to the minimum with our second goal of the game in the 16th minute by Shane O’Callagahn after a brilliant long-ranged ball from Barry Shanahan. Crokes then went on to score five points in succession before a brilliant Greg Horan goal, followed by a long-ranged point from Seán Quilter.

Crokes pointed again on the stroke of half-time to leave them ahead at the break by three points (1-10 to 3-1).

We did slightly better in the second half – scoring eight points to ten for the opposition – but it was not enough to secure victory.

Points from Seán Quilter (2), Donagh McKivergan and Colm Browne and a goal and a point by Shane O’Callaghan was our contribution during this half, which left the game ending in a five points victory for the visitors.

The result leaves us still in 8th position on the League table but that could change after the coming week-end when the remaining five round 6 games are played. Dingle, who are our opponents in round 7 to be played on the week-end after next (w/e 21st May), are away to Ballymac in this round 6 game and they still have their postponed round 5 game to play, at home to Legion which has not been fixed as we write.

Team: Ben Quilter, Colm Browne (0-1), Barry Shanahan, Niall Fitzmaurice, Jack Murphy, Paul O’Sullivan, Eoghan Carroll, Michael O’Donnell), Michael O’Gara, Greg Horan (1-0), Donagh McKivergan (0-1), Fiachna Mangan, Seán Quilter (1-3 – two frees), Shane O’Callaghan (2-1 – one free), Shane Carroll.

Subs used: Shane Bastible (35m), Conor Myers (43m), Luke Casey (52m), Noah Townsend (56m).

After the game Colm Browne was awarded the Celsius Mensware Man of the Match award. And this was only Colm’s 5th SF game since he made his debut in the first round of the Co. League against Spa on the 25th March.

WELL DONE: to our own Dylan Casey who made his Kerry SF Championship debut last Sunday in the Munster Final in Limerick. And inside the 2nd minute of the game Dylan, as he normally does, raced up the field to punch over the first score of the game which set Kerry of their road to well earned victory.

B FOOTBALL. Our B team have now two more rounds to play, away to Ballylongford (w/e 14th May) and at home to Duagh on the week after (w/e 21st May).

THE C TEAM: Austin Stacks 1-6; Rathmore 5-22.

Our C Team came up against a very strong Rathmore side in round 3 of the Co. League played in Connolly Park on last Friday evening (5th May) despite some very great displays by many of our lads. At half time the East Kerry boys were ahead by 3-11 to 1-3. Damien Hogan scored two points with Joey Kinsella on target also and our goal coming in the 23rd minute from Jack Doyle.

Damien and Joey were again on target in the second half with our third point coming from David Leonard. The margin of victory could have been more except for two stunning saves by Tom McLoughlin and Pa McCarthy.

Team: Marc Carmody, Shane Kelliher, David Hannafin, Tom McLoughlin, Chairdhe Fitzgerald, Alain Creagh, Evan Foley, Gearóid Kilgallen, Damien Hogan (0-3 –two frees), Jack Doyle (1-0), Joey Kinsella (0-2), Pa McCarthy, James Charles, David Leonard (0-1), Brian O’Sullivan.

Subs used: Joe Reidy (26m), St. John Hegarty (33m), Adam Conway (48m).

We now have two more rounds to play, away to O’Rahillys (/we 28th May) and at home to Launge Rangers (w/e 18th June).

CLUB CARDS: Our Card sessions continue in the Clubhouse on Mondays and Thursdays with the starting time of 9pm sharp.

CLUB LOTTO: This week’s (8th May) Jackpot worth €3,850 was not won. The winning numbers were 13, 23, 26, 28. The €20 winners were David Hill and Paudie Healy, both c/o The Club; Mike Cooper and Aileen Galvin, both c/o Carmel O’Neill; and Geraldine Harrington, c/o The Burger Shack.

Next week’s Jackpot will be worth €3,900.

Continued thanks to the following businesses for selling our Lotto tickets on a weekly basis – Kevin Barry’s Shop, Commanes Bookshop (PC Books), O’Flynns Interiors, Hussey’s, Princes St., The Burger Shack, Monavalley and Kirby’s Brogue Inn. And continued thanks to everyone who purchase tickets week-in week-out.

SYMPATHY: Sincere sympathy is offered to the families of the following who died recently; Dolly (Catherine) Lawlor (nee Duggan), Ogham Rian and formerly Old Marian Park; Margaret (Pearl) Fitzgerald (nee Joy), Leith West and formerly Listowel, Dingle and the UK; Jerry Horgan, Old Golf Links (a Club player that made the number two jersey his own as a Juvenile and Minor player in the late 1990s and an uncle of current Club Footballer, goalkeeper Brian Horgan); Elsie Mallon (nee Carmody), Caherslee and formerly Ardfert, Swords and the UK; and John O’Callaghan, Racecourse Road and formerly Taur (Cork). Senior Development League
Div 2 Round 3
Ballymacelligott Spa

This Round 3 game was played in Ballymacelligott on Saturday evening the 6th of May.
Prior to the game, a minute’s silence was observed for the late Ellen Clifford. We extend our deepest sympathy to the Clifford and O’Shea Families. We are thinking especially of Ellen’s brother Tom who is a selector with our B team.

After fifteen minutes, Ballymac scored 2-06 and Spa failed to score. Points from Diarmuid Galvin and Michael Herlihy, a goal and a point from Conor Brick, and a goal and three points from Maurice O’Connell gave Ballymac a good cushion going into the second quarter of the first half.

Spa dominated the second quarter of the first half and scored four points to Ballymac one from the boot of Michael Herlihy.

The second half saw Ballymac up the pace and Maurice O’Connell added a point and two more goals. Conor Brick, Skye Lynch, and Brian Cassidy got two more points to give the final score; Ballymac 4-11 to Spa 0-5.

It was good to see Cian Godley come on late in the second half having recovered from an injury earlier in the season. Players that impressed for Ballymac were: Ciaran Brosnan, Diarmuid Galvin, and Eoin Creedon in the backs as well as Cathal Culloty, Maurice O’Connell, and Conor Brick.

Minor Boys

Blue Team

An Gaeltacht v Ballymac – Central Region First Round – Division 1B

Our Minor team played in the first round of the Central Region First Round – Division 1B in glorious conditions in Gallarus on Monday Evening.

Ballymac had a bright opening with a flurry of points playing some stylish and effective football at times. This was especially impressive as we had only 16 players and the conditions were on the humid side. At Half Time, Ballymac led on a scoreline of 2-7 to 0-9.

In the second half, Ballymac continued to play some nice football with some great scores with worthwhile contributions from all 16 players in attendance. Our target man, Luke Griffin got a vital goal in the second half which put the game out of the host’s reach.

Ballymac took home the win on a final scoreline of Ballymac 3-13 An Gaeltacht 1-14. The lads went for a well-earned dip in the sea after the game on Ballinrannig Beach.

Thanks must go to the An Gaeltacht club who brought forward the time to 5pm from 7pm which helped with the travel arrangements.

Ballymac v Cromane on 10th May in Cromane @6pm

U16 Girls
Following a fantastic victory over Kerins O’Rahillys in Round 2 we welcomed Laune Rangers to Ballymac for the latest round of the Co League on Wednesday evening last.

The Killorglin side’s ability to score goals in the first half saw them lead at half time, they continued to dominate the second half to run out deserved winners, full credit to our Girls who never gave up, some resolute defending kept the Laune Rangers attack at bay on many occasions, while our forwards worked well to create and take some nice scores.

Our cause wasn’t helped due to players missing due to unavailability and injuries, hopefully we will have these players available for our next against Kilcummin.

Amongst the injured players are Katie Hobbert and Laura West who we wish a speedy recovery and we hope to see them back in a Ballymac jersey in the not too distant future.

U15 Boys

Feile

Ballymacelligott U15 team who played in the Féile on Friday evening we did not get off to a good start against Churchill who ended up winning 2g 6p to 5p we played better in the second game against Fingue and won 4.6 to 3p but it wasn’t enough to see us through to the semi-final stage there was some great individual performances and it was great to see the lads enjoying themselves despite the loss.

Churchill went on to beat Fingue in their second game and progressed to the semi-final stage.  We would like to congratulate Churchill who went on to beat Kenmare and become division 2 feile winners

We play Churchill again on Monday night next at home at 6.30 in the final game of the county league.

The semi-finals of this competition have been decided and we play Legion at home on Wed night at 7pm in the Div 2 section

Junior Primary School Blitz.

On Friday morning last over 170 pupils, from juniors to second class, from our four parish primary school descended on the pitch for some fun and games from 9am to 12pm. With lots of the boys and girls already playing football with the club it was a great opportunity for those kids that had not yet ventured on a Gaa pitch, to try out Gaelic football for the first time, and hopefully think of joining our academy.

A big thank you to the schools and staff for supporting the blitz and to our club coaches who were able to make themselves available to help out. Also, to our minor ladies and men’s team members who did a great job coaching and reffing games.

Mannix Property Services sponsored the blitz and a special thanks to Brendan and Amanda for showing their support to our club. Finally, thanks to the Coiste na nÓg team behind the scenes who did a great job organising the event. A second blitz will take place in June for pupils from 3rd to 6th class. Míle Buíochas.

U9 boys travelled to Cordal on Friday evening. After a very enjoyable school blitz in the morning the boys didn’t show any sign of tiredness playing 3 very competitive games. 16 boys lined out for Ballymac. All the boys are improving week on week. Thanks again to all the parents for driving.

Academy
This Sunday we had a great turnout at Academy in our main pitch

Huge thanks to all the coaches for their time and commitment each Sunday morning.

The club really appreciates it.

Our U5 Academy squad was 22 strong on Sunday morning as we welcomed more new kids to the team. Our players had great fun taking the next steps in their soloing journey, playing some very energetic games of “cops and robbers” and some target practice.

Our under 7 girls’ group are seeking some female volunteers to help out head coach Tj Casey with the girls. Two would be ideal in rotation. Please let TJ know on Sunday if you can help out.

Health & Wellbeing

Thanks to all who participated in Ballymac clean up over the last weekend. If you do have pickers still at home to be returned, please contact our healthy club on 0871811249. FOLLOWING the successful Teddy Bear Hospital event recently held at the Kerry Campus, MTU has announced that building contractors JJ Rhatigan & Company have made a significant donation to the event charity partner, BUMBLEance.

The aim of the Teddy Bear Hospital was to ease the stress and tension that a child feels when attending a hospital or when seeing a doctor, as well as finding out more about what doctors, nurses and healthcare specialists and professionals do as part of their jobs.

Using the cuddly teddy bears, MTU and RCSI medical, healthcare, and science students, and staff showed children what happens in a hospital, who works there and how the ‘Teddy Doctor’ helps the sick teddy to feel better.
