So the halfway point of the 2024 season has come and gone and there is a lot to be upbeat for from a Kerry standpoint.
Fifteen points on the board to date, five more than the total for the entire season in 2023 has smiles on the faces of the Kerry faithful in Mounthawk Park.
Speaking of smiles, Monday blues weren’t being long quenched on the June Bank Holiday. An impressive display from the first to the ninty seventh minute saw Kerry beat Treaty United by 2 goals to 1 in Mounthawk Park.

Kennedy Amechi’s goal was followed by an own goal early in the second half. Enda Curran’s penalty turned out to only be a consolation goal in the end and a late red card for the Limerick veteran meant it was a cameo to forget for him.
So Kerry closed the gap to the early league leaders to 3 points as Kerry’s eyes are firmly set on a move up the table rather than down.
But as home wins start arriving like buses, ironically it is away wins and points that Kerry are craving this June. Four straight defeats away from home has the Kingdom pointless on the road since mid-April and it is sure to be a run of form that Conor McCarthy will want stamped out sooner rather than later.
A trip to the students of UCD AFC in Belfield awaits the Kingdom tomorrow and it’s sure to be as tough a task as any. UCD come into the game in 2nd place, 9 points adrift of league leaders Cork City as they look to close the gap to automatic promotion.
But the lack of victories in recent games for the students will boost Kerry FC’s confidence ahead of this one. In fact, since the sides met last month in Mounthawk, the Belfield outfit have gone on a run of 4 straight draws, the last 2 being scoreless.
So Kerry will have plenty to be positive about ahead of the trip to Baile Athá Cliath. Kerry’s first-ever game in the capital ended in a 1-1 draw on Matchday 8, a fine effort from the Kingdom on that occasion.
With the summer break coming up after next Thursday’s game against basement side Longford Town, a swing of 6 points could be huge in a push up the table post the break as the season begins to ramp up again.
California native Ethan Kos is the only man to have worn the UCD and Kerry FC jerseys. The Kerry defender played his trade with UCD during his studies there last year, but not for their League of Ireland but the side playing in the Leinster Senior League.
Kos was snapped up for Kerry in the summer window of 2023 and hasn’t looked back since.
Kerry FC have reported a full bill of health ahead of the trip to Dublin tomorrow. Despite taking a few heavy hits during the Treaty United game on Monday night, Ethan Kos and Nathan Gleeson are both fully fit.
Jack Kavanagh continues his return to full fitness and is in contention for a place on the Matchday 20. With this being the third game in 7 days, rotation will be key to results.
Conor McCarthy said; “Everyone can see this group has gone up a level and is capable of getting a result against anyone in this league. So if we go up there with the right attitude and perform like we have performed I think we have a great chance.
“Obviously, we went up there early in the season and grabbed a point, we had a late goal ruled out for a very close offside. If the application is right then we definitely have a chance, 100%.”

A JOINT project between the HSE and St Vincent de Paul has been launched aiming to provide people in need in our communities with much needed access to care packs.
This initiative is a HSE funded pilot project that will facilitate the provision of care packs for people identified by health professionals as needing them to enhance their health.
The care packs will be provided by St Vincent de Paul and will include items such as bed linen, towels, toiletries to include shampoo, shower gel etc., and underwear. The aim of this project is to support people who require support to live in conditions at home that better support their health and wellbeing.

Miriam O’Sullivan, Enhanced Community Care Network Manager, said there will be no charge for the service and the aim is to support people to access items that will help them to live in conditions that better support their health and wellbeing.
“Supporting people to live as independently as possible within their own home, while being able to access healthcare services required for their needs, was a key catalyst to the development of this project.”
“During our work with people in the community it became clear that many people faced challenges in this area and we wanted to be able to provide a proactive solution for people; while also implementing the key strategies of integration as outlined under Sláintecare,” she said.
Any person in the Kerry area wishing to access the service can ask their local primary care health professional (eg HSE physiotherapist, occupational therapist, speech and language therapist, podiatrist, dietician, social worker or public health nurse) for information.
SVP will be asking for donations of new clothing, shower gels etc that can be used towards the care packs. Donations for this specific pilot project can be accepted at Vincent’s Donation Centre in Monavalley.
DINGLE Literary Festival has announced a special event for Saturday July 20, at The Blasket Centre.
Dingle Lit will host an evening with acclaimed author Colm Tóibín to celebrate the launch of his latest book, ‘Long Island’. Broadcaster and musician, Philip King, will engage in conversation with Colm Tóibín at The Blasket Centre from 7pm.

WITH just over a week to go until this year’s Three Peaks Challenge on Saturday, June 15, people still have time to saddle up for Down Syndrome Kerry in partnership with Killarney Cycling Club.
The event promises to be a fabulous day of cycling and fun two routes available; 100km or 75km, to meet all abilities, covering some of the most beautiful landscapes in Ireland, with plenty of laughs and refreshments along the way.
With the Ring of Kerry cycle only four weeks away, this is the perfect warm-up for anyone thinking of doing the Ring of Kerry this year or anybody looking for a really well run sportive while supporting Down Syndrome Kerry and KCC.

A NEW, seven days per week bus service serving Tralee, Spa, Kilfenora and Fenit will begin this summer. The new bus will run multiple services and will be operated by Local Link Kerry.
The new service was highlighted at the launch of two new fully electric buses which will serve Dingle and West Kerry. Local Link Kerry have published the route number and are currently finalising the timetable for the new 278 route.
Minister for Transport, Eamon Ryan, speaking following the electric bus launch in Dingle said:“We’ve just launched two new electric buses for West Kerry, a new service from Dingle to Inch and on to Killarney, and now we have more good news for Tralee, Spa & Fenit.”

The new service is due to start in a number of weeks. Local Link Kerry will publish the timetable on its own website and a service announcement will be made shortly.
Anluan Dunne, local election candidate in the Tralee electoral area, warmly welcomed the announcement: “I’m delighted to announce this new bus service, the 278. The new bus will run every day, several times a day, and I understand the last bus in the evening will run at around 11pm. For people living in Fenit it provides a cheap, safe way to head into Spa or Tralee for dinner and get back home. For those of us living in Tralee it means being able to head to the beach, or the cafes and restaurants and not have to worry about parking.”
OVER 50,000 visitors passed through the purpose-built Bike Village at The Gleneagle Hotel over the June bank holiday weekend during Ireland BikeFest, making the 16th year of the festival the biggest yet.
The charity aspect to the weekend was also greatly supported with over €21,000 raised for the Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind through donations and a raffle for a Harley Davidson.
“Thank you to the big-hearted bikers and aspiring bikers who bought raffle tickets and made donations to support our work,” said Chris Bennett, Regional Development Officer with Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind.

GARDAI in Tralee are investigating separate incidents of criminal damage, a break-in and a road traffic collision in the local area where they are asking for any witnesses to come forward.
On Wednesday, May 29, at 5.05pm, a driver returned to the car which was parked in the Oakpark area, to discover the wing mirror was damaged.
On Sunday, June 2, at 0.55am in the morning, a woman was asleep in her home in the Ard Na Lí area, when she was woken by someone entering the house whom she thought was a family member.

However, when she got up, she observed a young person leaving the house with a car leaving the area shortly after. Nothing was taken from the house.
On Tuesday, April 30, between 8.30am to 9am, a road traffic collision occurred between a vehicle and a pedestrian outside the bus station on John Joe Sheehy road and witnesses are sought.

KERRY County Council is to invite expressions of interest next week for the commissioning and development of a commemorative and artistic piece which will honour the role played by women in Kerry during the revolutionary period between 1912 and 1923.
The project follows a joint motion by the five female members of Kerry County Council who called for the development and commissioning of a meaningful and lasting commemorative piece which would reflect the significant and diverse roles and activities of women and their involvement in the campaign for Irish Independence at the beginning of the twentieth century.
A Working Group, including the five female councillors, has been developing a design brief, and the Council intends to publish a detailed brief for the memorial next week and expressions of interest will be invited.
GARDAI in Tralee are investigating an alleged assault incident on Sunday morning.
Gardaí received a report of a motorist who stopped in the Ballymullen area and it’s alleged an altercation took place with another person at about 11.35am and the motorist suffered a minor injury.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the incident and motorists who may have dash cam footage to contact them at Tralee Garda Station on 066-7102300.
SIX local organisations from Kerry were today announced as County Finalists in the National Lottery Good Causes Awards 2024.
Tralee Rugby Club is one of the finalists in the Sport category. The others were Cumann Tithíochta na Dromoda Teo in the Community Category; Recovery Haven Kerry in the Health & Wellbeing category; Listowel Writers’ Week in Arts and Culture; Maharees Conservation Association CLG in Heritage and Kerry Diocesan Youth Service in Youth category.
The awards aim to honour, showcase and celebrate the inspiring work being carried out nationwide by thousands of projects, clubs and individuals who have received support from Good Causes funding.

The 147 County Finalists nationwide will now compete for a place in the National Finals judging phase next month, after which the National Finalists will be announced.
The total prize fund available on the night of the Good Causes Awards ceremony is €100,000, whereby each of the seven category winners will receive €10,000 and the overall Good Cause of the Year will take home an additional €25,000.
A special category, ‘Hero of the Year’, will be announced on the awards night in recognition of outstanding work, where the recipient will receive a prize of €5,000. In addition, each of the National Finalists announced in June will receive a cheque for €1,000.

MUNSTER Technological University (MTU) has received over €2 million in Springboard+ funding.
The Springboard+ programme provides free and heavily subsidised upskilling and reskilling opportunities through higher education in areas where there are identified skills needs. Many of these courses are aimed at jobseekers and those returning to the workforce.
The Springboard+ funded places are spread across a wide range of MTU’s courses. Applicants can choose from programmes in business, science, agriculture, culinary arts and much more. Candidates can earn honours degree awards, postgraduate diplomas and higher certificates.

All courses approved for funding under Springboard+ are selected following a competitive tendering process. In particular, courses with a proven track record in getting people back into employment are recommended for funding.
KERRY sports clubs can apply for grants of up to €5,000 per club under a new funding scheme announced this week by the Kerry Recreation & Sports Partnership.
The aims of the Partnership include increasing participation in sport and physical activity, improving the quality of coaching and training and supporting volunteers in sport.
The Sports Club Grant 2024 aims to assist new and existing clubs in creating structures which achieve long-term development and offer benefits to the club.

Ballymacelligott travelled to Kilcummin on Friday evening. The squad missed many players due to injuries, exams, and holidays.
The players who togged out did the club proud, with some great performances for new players who joined the squad in 2024. It was an ideal evening for football, and the sun shone brightly over Pairc Chuimín.
Donal Daly opened the scoring with a point for Ballymac, followed by two from Keith O’Leary and Sean Doolan for Kilcummin. Keith O’Leary’s point came from a 45 following a save by Christy Leen in goal for Ballymac. Micheál Reidy levelled the game with a point for Ballymac;
For the next twelve minutes, Ballymac failed to score, and Kilcummin notched up two more points, leading by double scores with seventeen minutes gone.
Donal Daly scored a point, and Kilcummin matched it. Tomás O’Connor scored his second for Ballymac, and Gary O’Leary for Kilcummin added another. Daniel O’Shea was fouled, and Donal Daly scored a point from the free.
Sean Doolan scored Kilciummin’s last point of the game, and Donal Daly and Tomás O’Connor added two for Ballymac to leave the game all square at halftime. James Kenny worked particularly hard in this half and was very sharp and accurate in his ball passing to his teammates.

Andy Rogers scored his first point for the Ballymac Senior team and the opening point of the second half within a minute of the throw-in. Eleven minutes passed before the next point was scored by Sean Doolan for Kilcummin.
Michael Herlihy and Donal Daly added two more, and Kilcummin scored to bring the teams level at 0-9 each with 15 minutes left to play. Donal Daly and James Kenny added two points for Ballymac before Sean Doolan converted from a free.
Daniel O’Shea did some great work and passed the ball to Donal Daly and Ballymac were in the lead by two points.
However, Kilcummin would not let this game go, and a point from a free from Sean Doolan and a goal from Matt Keane in the 26th Minute gave them a two-point lead. Some good defending by Ballymac held the opposition scoreless for the final five minutes.
Donal Daly scored two points, one at the last minute, to give Ballymac another point on the County League Table.
In games like this, one sees the value of a strong squad. With so many injuries, seeing all the players who had never started for the Senior A team step up and perform so well was reassuring.
One could see their interest all year and their delight in starting the game. Every single player excelled. It was a good night for our club

The Senior B team travelled to Keel on Sunday morning and came home with a win. The game was one-sided, with Ballymac dominant and leading from the first score of the game.
A point from Josh O’Keeffe opened the scoring, and shortly afterwards, Eoghan Leahy hit the back of the net. Two points from Shane Gilroy and James Kenny have Ballymac leading 2-03 with fifteen minutes left in the half.
Cathal White scored a goal, Skye Lynch and Captain Barry Lyons added a point each for Ballymac, and Keel got on the scoreboard with a goal. Josh O’Keeffe added a point for Ballymac, and Keel matched that score.
The score went from 1-01 to 2-06 with five minutes left in the half. James Kenny and Barry Lyons scored Ballymac’s last two points of the half, and Keel scored a point just before the halftime whistle blew.

The second half again showed off the work rate and communication among the Ballymac players. They added two more goals from Shane Gilroy, points from Jamie Burke and Andy Rogers, and two points each from James Kenny (1 free) and Barry Lyons (1 free).
It was a very good team performance from Conor Martin in goals to the full forward line of Eoghan Leahy, Barry Lyons, and Josh O’Keeffe.

Much credit is due to all the players lined out on Sunday morning. It was good to see Mossie Brennan back in the Ballymac Jersey, and credit to all the players who played on Friday night for making themselves available again.

School Blitz
On Friday morning in glorious sunshine our Coiste na nÓg committee hosted our annual Primary School Blitz for the 4 primary schools in the parish. Girls and boys took to the field, some for the very first time, and enjoyed some great small sided games throughout the morning. Many thanks to all the the schools for their cooperation and to all the coaches, mainly our club minor men and ladies team members. Thanks also to our sponsors Mannix Property Services for their support again this year.
The mornings football would not be the same without the ice cream van on hand at the end to reward all participants with a well-deserved cone.

Our U7s enjoyed a great evening of hurling on Friday evening as Crotta hosted an under 7 blitz. The boys played games against Kilmoyley, Crotta, Abbeydorney and Ballyduff. It was great to see the boys using their skills and having such fun.

U15 Feile Preparations
As the U15 Feile Camogie and Hurling squads are busy preparing to represent the club in the All Ireland finals in Wexford in June, fundraising continues.
The club held a bake sale held in Caherslee GAA grounds on Friday evening which was a tremendous success. The place was buzzing with activity throughout the evening as our Under 7, 9 and 11 groups got to showcase their hurling abilities for the players from our two Féile panels.
A great turn out on for the Tralee Parnells academy training session and bake sale event on Friday evening in Caherslee.
A large turnout of parents and children also contributed to the wonderful atmosphere. The bake sale featured a variety of expertly made treats, displaying the baking talents within our club!! The funds raised from the bake sales and sale of raffle lines will significantly support our Féile trip to Wexford for our hurling and camogie teams.
Thank you to all the parents and children who brought goodies along and also purchased treats. Your contributions made this a fantastic evening for everyone involved. Newcomers are always welcome to the academy session on Friday evening to give hurling and camogie a try and have some fun. The club will provide hurleys and helmets.
Camán to Croker
As part of the Camogie Association’s 120th anniversary celebrations, sixty four U12 teams from across the country will have the opportunity to represent their clubs at a fun-filled day of blitz matches next Sunday 9th June.
Tralee Parnells are honoured to have been selected to take part in this day. The girls are busy preparing for this fun filled day and are looking forward to the honour of representing their club
Camogie Poc Fada
The Kerry Camogie Poc Fada competition was held during the week on a pristine Crotta GAA pitch. Congratulations to Tralee Parnells players Shauna Harris, winner of the Senior Poc Fada and to Anna Chute, winner of the U16’s Poc Fada. Both players will go onto represent their county at the Munster Poc Fada.
Well done to all the competitors who took part and a huge thank you to Siobhán Herbert (County Development Officer) and Annemarie Russell (County Chairperson) for organising the event.

Senior Hurling
To mark the special occasion of Parnells re-joining the rank of Senior Hurling in Kerry, the club commissioned two new sets of jerseys, a ‘Home’ and an ‘Away’ set. The ‘Away’ set was designed by Paul Galvin and has the names of the players that played on the 1918 and 1919 County title winning team embedded in the design.
On Friday morning, the two sets of jerseys were presented to the club by the new senior team sponsors Kevin and Fiona Cotter from Kirbys Brogue Inn and Rory Kerins of Pro-Plan Auctioneers. Speaking at the presentation, Stephen Buttimer said; “We are delighted to have The Brogue Inn and Pro-Plan Auctioneers on board as Senior Team sponsors and the club is very grateful to Fiona, Kevin and Rory for their support as we embark on our County Senior Championship journey”.

Junior Hurling
The junior hurling team had a good win against Rathmore in the final round of the Division 2A County league
PRELIMINARY work is underway of the site of the new Tralee Boxing Club and Community Space which is due to open next year. JF Flynn Construction Ltd commenced some of the initial phase of work on the site this week with construction scheduled to begin on site next year.
The Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council, Cllr Jim Finucane, and the Minister for Education, Norma Foley, were present on Tuesday as details of the new 1,041sqm facility were revealed.
The two-storey building on a brownfield site at the junction of Boherbee and Dean’s Lane will provide a state of the art boxing facility as well as ancillary facilities for community purposes.

The design of the Tralee Boxing Club and Community Space building was advanced through the planning consent process in 2019 and forms part of the Mitchels Boherbee Community Regeneration Project.
The ground floor will include changing rooms and toilets along with the boxing gym and the gym hall itself. The first floor will include meeting rooms, offices, canteen and toilets associated with the Community Space, together with a mezzanine and canteen for use by the boxing gym members.
The project is funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development under the Community Recognition Fund and by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage under the Urban Regeneration Development Fund, along with additional investment by Kerry County Council. Construction of the €3m facility is expected to commence in 2025.
The return of experienced duo David Moran and Tommy Walsh proved the inspiration for this hard earned , precious win in Gallarus played in glorious sunshine despite a strong breeze.
Both seamlessly integrated back into the squad, their influence undeniable, as we significantly raised the level of our performance from that seen to date – their presence seemed to have the desired effect on all their teammates who gained in confidence as the game unfolded.
The home side played with the strong breeze and hardly put a foot wrong in the opening quarter, racing into a 0-07 to 0-01 lead by the 12th minute with Tomás Kennedy notching our only score as he raced through the defence to fire over in the 6th minute.
An Ghaeltacht’s dominance waned however as David Moran and Tom Hoare, ably assisted by Tomás Kennedy, Ben Hanafin and Jake Foley, began to make their presence felt with good scores coming from two pointed frees from Tom plus another two placed balls from Darragh O’Connor – indeed Darragh was proving to be a major thorn in their side and his overall points tally of 0-07 was testament to his overall influence.
Barry John had our first point from play since Tomás’ opening effort in the 23rd minute with An Ghaeltacht replying in kind on the 26th minute; the next score, was pivotal as Conor Hayes found the bottom corner of the net to level matters; it all started with a good interception by Sam Pituch in defence who found Ben Hanafin and he made inroads into the defence before playing Conor in for the green flag.
We traded points from here to the short whistle which saw us trail by just one at the break, 0-11 to 1-07.
The omens for the second half were good with Barry John levelling matters from play and then Darragh, put us ahead for the first time with a point from play which he quickly followed up with another from a free; we went 3 up by the midway point of the 2nd half before An Ghealtacht again pulled back a score from a free.
The next score was probably the point of the match as Tomás Kennedy surged forward, and wind assisted, split the posts from distance.
Our defence held firm throughout this second half, defending stoutly, remaining composed without resorting to fouling – the opposition were only able to add four points in the 30+ mins played.
Ross made some important interceptions, Ben shadowed Tomás O’Sé to great effect whilst Daniel Bowler was on hand to hoover up any breaking ball. Shane McElligott in this period too made a huge contribution and played himself to a standstill.
In the end, we had a deserved win and now look forward to the visit of Glenflesk next weekend.
We would like to wish An Ghaeltacht’s centre back and captain, PJ Mac Láimh the best as he recovers from an injury which forced his withdrawal.

Our brand new gym, located in the Healy Room will officially open its doors this coming Wednesday, June 5th under the tutelage of Inception Performance.
Inception Performance is the brainchild of Dan Breen who has over 15 years experience in the health and leisure industry, and who already has an association with the club, following on from his time as S & C with William Harmon’s management team.
Dan and his team will be in attendance from Monday – Friday, 6 am to 6 pm and on Saturdays until noon for classes etc – you can learn more by logging on to Inception Performance or downloading the app Glofox – we would like to wish Dan and his team every success with this venture.
Book Launch:
Kerryman journalist Stephen Fernane will officially launch his book “ The Life and Times of Bernard Dillon” in the clubhouse on Thursday night next, June 6th @ 7 pm.
Mayor of Tralee and Strand Road man, Councillor Terry O’Brien will perform the launch and all are welcome to attend.
The book tells the extraordinary story of Bernard Dillon, a native of Caherina, who famously won the Epsom Derby in 1910.
It promises to be a great occasion and well worth attending.
Juvenile Academy:
It was great to see such high numbers at the academy yet again this week.
All age groups enjoyed their training sessions with their coaches. Thanks as always to our parents for their continued support and bringing their kids to training. Thanks to our wonderful coaches for their time and dedication. Special thank you to Ben, Taylor and Fiadh who came to help with coaching. It’s great to see older club players mentoring our Juveniles and volunteering to help out when they can.

Great Start to our Under 7 Go Games campaign on Thursday evening as we travelled to Keel GAA . The boys played really well and are improving steadily. Important now that we keep up the effort on Sunday mornings and at home also.

U12 Girls:
KOR U12s played a challenge game against Annascaul on Tuesday evening. Annascaul were a very physical, tough side and put it up to the KOR girls. After a quiet first quarter, the scores started to come in the second and third quarter with Ava and Eimear finding the mark.
Some great defensive work from our half backs kept Annascaul out on numerous occasions. Yet again a great team performance saw KOR come out on top. Well done girls on another great performance. Thank you to Annascaul for coming in to play us.
U14 Kerins O’Rahillys team
U14 Girls:
Our Kerins O’Rahilly’s team made the long journey to Dromore, Templenoe on Wednesday night to face ISG in the County League. Despite a Trojan team effort from our girls, ISG proved far too strong and the game ended 1-13 to 0-1.
Special mention to Allie Kerins who gave it everything at midfield, captain Emma Onyekwere and Aoibhinn Corridon who defended tirelessly and Lily Hussey who had another great game. Thanks also to the parents who made the long journey down South.
We’ve been plagued by injuries this County League but our girls have shown a great attitude and will learn from this. MK Gaels up next in the last game of this League.

One training this week for our u16 girls as a lot of girls are getting ready for their Junior Cert and more getting ready to enjoy summer holidays we left them off with one training.
From our management we want to wish the best of luck to Fiadh, Erica, Jocelynn, Taylor, Greta Aoibheann, Saoirse, Donna, Naoise, Caoileann, Bianka, and Bridget in their exams next week.

Senior Men: Last Saturday night our seniors had a short trip across town to take on John Mitchels in Round 9 of the Credit Union Co. League. Mitchels played with the aid of the wind in the first half and took an early lead with a point from a free.
However, it was a full 13 minutes before they added their second point by which time our lads had kicked 5 wides. Eventually a point from Kieran O’Connor, who was lively throughout, and one from Ruairí Ó hAiniféin tied up the game with 22 minutes gone.
Mitchels edged ahead again but Na Gaeil responded with a point each from Tomás Ó hAiniféin and Jamesie O’Connor to edge the contest 4 points to 3 at halftime.
Na Gaeil started the second half with gusto and were rewarded with points from Dan Goggin and Kieran O’Connor. Mitchels kept in touch with a pointed free. A Ruairí Ó hAiniféin point off his left and a Mark Lynch free extended Na Gaeil’s lead to 4 points, 8 points to 4, mid-way through the half.
However Mitchels sprung into life and added 2 frees and a point from play in a matter of minutes and it was now just a 1 point game. A Mark Lynch free in the 27th minute gave our lads a 2 point cushion but it proved to be a dangerous lead.
From the kickout Mitchels drove through our defence and smashed home a goal. Credit to our lads though. They worked the ball upfield one final time, finding Dan Goggin inside the 21 and he popped over the equalizing point. Final score: John Mitchels 1-7, Na Gaeil 0-10.

Club Summer Camp: Our annual Campa Samhraidh Peile will be held this year from Aug 5th to 9th for children aged between 5 and 13. The camp will run from 10am until 2pm each day. The cost will be €45 for 1 child, €80 for 2 children from the same family while 3 or more children from the same family will cost €105.
U5s: Our under 5s were out in big numbers yesterday morning working on our catching, bouncing and kicking. Progress is being made and fun being had.
U7s: Our U7’s group welcomed Listowel Emmets to the club yesterday morning for Go-Games. The kids really enjoyed themselves and were all keen to display their football skills. Thanks to all the players, coaches and parents. Training continues on Thursday evening.
U9 Boys: Our u9s will play Ardfert tomorrow (Tue) night at 6.30pm in Killeen.
U11 Boys: Well done to our under 11 boys who trained hard yesterday morning in Killeen. Plenty of running and passing kept the boys on their toes as they look forward to their league games over the coming weeks.
U13 Boys: Congratulations to our U13A team who defeated Austin Stacks last night in the Division 1 Co. League semi-final by 2-11 to 0-15. They will play Milltown/Castlemaine in the final.

Dingle Way Challenge
Last Sunday saw St. Pats GAA host their Dingle Way Challenge with the aim to raise funds for the development projects the club is undertaking to enhance our facilities for our players, members, and the greater community in general, and it was a resounding success!
The weather on the morning was sunny as participants for the Ultra route gathered at the clubhouse as early as 4.15am for registration and briefing on safety from the organising committee.
The walk itself was 42km long for the very fit ultra-participants, it took in parts such as from the crashing waves of the Atlantic at Slea Head, taking in the view of the magnificent Blasket islands, to walking on the golden sands of Ventry beach and on into the picturesque town of Dingle to finish in Annascaul home of famous Antarctic Explorer Tom Crean.
Our Standard route participants had a 31km long walk which began in Ventry Beach and continued on the same route.
Participants were treated to breakfast in Muris Dan’s in Dingle and lunch at Lispole GAA Grounds. This year’s walk had beautiful scenery from the Atlantic, Blasket Islands, Ventry Beach and of course the beautiful town of Dingle Town.
Our participants preserved and were met by members of the organising committee with a DWC medal, water, and lots of refreshments. The first Ultra Man to arrive at the finishing line was Gary Scollard and First Woman in the Ultra was Eilín Loibhéad.
After all the walking was done, all were invited to sit down under our marquee for a BBQ, Beer or wine for the ladies or men and a chance to interact with other walkers and members of the community.
Overall, the event was successful to date with nearly 200 participants ensuring that all the hard work put by the committee and club in general paid off. The club would like to use this opportunity to thank our main sponsors, Poff Motors, 3D Personnel, Divane’s Volkswagen Kerry and all the other businesses who contributed to this event by providing services, food, drinks and donating generously.
We encourage all our club members to support these businesses in any way they can. Many thanks to Derryquay ICA for helping with the catering, our club members and members of the general public who supported the event by participating and contributing in some small ways to the smooth running of this event.
Thank you to those who provided medical care throughout the route on the day of the walk. Well, done to the organising committee for the meticulous planning in ensuring everything ran like clockwork and to anyone who gave their time in the led up to the event.

St Brendan’s Board
St Brendan’s board played against Glenflesk in the Quarter Finals of the U21 Football County Championship they won on scoreline of 2-18 to 1-07. They are now into the semi-finals against Laune Rangers on Wednesday 26th of June in a neutral venue.

The first half of this match may have been low scoring, but it kept the crowd on the edge of their seats as it was a point for point game throughout this half. Scores coming from Gary Savage, Eoin Greaney and Paudie Bailey.

Laune Rangers opened their scoring with a point within a few minutes of the second half, Eoin Greaney got a point with Laune Rangers adding a goal a point before it was our time to score two points.
Three points from Laune Rangers edge them forward, three St Pats points came from Eoin Greaney, Patrick Dowling, and Luke Mulligan. Another goal for Laune Rangers kept them in the lead, three more scores from St Pats players, Conor Enright, Eoin Greaney and David Moriarty.
Two more points from Laune Rangers finished their scoring and St Pats final scores came from Eoin Greaney and Patrick Dowling.

Under 13 Boys v St. Michaels Foilmore
Under 13 Boys – There was a fantastic display of football on Saturday morning in Ballyseedy as our u13s Team Green made the County Final defeating a tough St. Michael Folimore outfit.
Slightly against the wind in the first half we worked some lovely scores, short kick passing and playing through the hands helped us go in at half time up by four; however our opponents never gave up and put some serious pressure on us to try and reduce the deficit.
Our goalie Tom Óg and his full back line had to be on their toes but they defended bravely, blocking and harassing their men consistently forcing some brilliant turnover ball to set us on the attack again.
Our forwards ran hard to receive the ball and linked up well with our runners from midfield and half back giving us the platform to shoot at every attack. SMF tried very hard and were unlucky with some shots but it was always going to be difficult with a breeze against them.

Under 15 Boys – Training continues on Mondays and Wednesdays. Details to be issued by WhatsApp. We had a great workshop at the club on Thursday evening facilitated by Martin Stackpoole and Conor Bohane which was attended by our U15 & U17 boys teams.
The @movember programme enables athletes learn how to build resilience and overcome challenges in sport and life. The programme is effective because it uses sport to help participants acquire important skills and knowledge. Well done to all involved and to Thomas Kearns for organizing.
Under 16 Girls and Minors – Our Under 16 girls are in a plate final v Annauscal/Castlegregory with the date for the game to be confirmed. Our Minor Girls have finished their competition for the year and we would encourage all of our minor players to join our senior ladies training sessions on Tuesday, Friday and Sundays.

Sympathies
The John Mitchels club were saddened to hear of the death of former Mitchels great, Sean Óg Sheehy.
We pass our deepest sympathies on to his children Oghie, Ronan, Mark, Clare, his brothers Niall and Brian and sister Kathleen, his extended family and friends. Sean Óg was a member of the famous Sheehy family and had a very distinguished football and hurling career winning many titles with both club and County.
Sean Óg was an integral part of the John Mitchels football team, winning 5 County Championship medals in a row from 1959 to 1963.
He won a sixth title in 1966. He also won a Cork County Championship medal with UCC in 1960. In 1962 he had the honour of captaining the Kerry team to victory against Roscommon in the All Ireland Football Final.
Sean Óg played at right half back in the final alongside his brothers Paudie (R.I.P) and Niall. He also captained Kerry team to victory in the 1963 home league final against Galway. He retired from the county team in 1963 at the tender age of 24.
Sean Óg continued to follow the exploits of the John Mitchels club throughout the years and was always on hand to offer advice to the club members and club officers. Rest in Peace Sean Óg, may the sod rest gently on your soul.
We also express our sincere sympathies to those who have recently experienced bereavement. We especially remember the families of Ann Thompson, Mary Tuohy, Maria Ianko and Theresa Barrett.
CONSUMERS and businesses are being urged to use a brown bin, recycle their food waste and reduce their carbon footprint, as National Food Waste Recycling Week is launched.
Now in its third year, National Food Waste Recycling Week runs from June 2nd until June 9th 2024.
This awareness campaign from MyWaste.ie, aims to provide practical advice and encourage more consumers and businesses to recycle food waste correctly in their home or workplace. It comes as new research of over 1,000 adults found that over two thirds (67%) of all householders in Ireland currently use a brown bin.

The research, conducted by iReach on behalf of MyWaste.ie, also revealed, of those who do use a brown bin, helping climate change is the top motivation, with 35% saying this is why they use a food waste bin.
However, there are still some people who put food waste in the general waste bin, meaning this food waste will never be recycled.
A recent study from the Environmental Protection Agency found that in commercial general waste bins, 30% of the contents are food waste, while in household general waste bins, 17% of the content is food waste.
“We’ve made great progress in Ireland with over two thirds of people now using a brown bin, but as we see from the research, there is still a high proportion of food waste that could be recycled going into our general waste bins,” said Pauline McDonogh Resource Efficiency Officer at MyWaste.ie.
The introduction of new legislation in January this year for households and in July last year for businesses means everyone, everywhere in Ireland with a kerbside waste collection service is now entitled to a brown bin service. We’d urge everyone – consumers and businesses – if you don’t use a brown bin, please start, and make a positive change for our environment,” she added.
In Ireland it’s estimated we waste about 750,000 tonnes of food each year. Food waste that ends up in landfill is a significant contributor to climate change.
It’s estimated that food waste generates about 8% to 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Preventing food waste and reducing food waste has both environmental and financial benefits.
The brown bin service accepts all types of food including raw and cooked meat and fish, plate scrapings, along with fruit and vegetable peelings.
Other items that can go into the brown bin include food-soiled paper napkins, paper towels, greasy pizza boxes as well as grass clippings and light garden waste.

Guidance Counsellor Billy Ryle has some last minute advice for 2024 State Exams candidates…
The waiting is almost over for about 136,300 Leaving Cert and Junior Cycle students as the exams get under way next Wednesday, 5th June.
Exam entries are up by 1,500, or 1%, on last year’s figure. 62,700 have applied for the Leaving Cert Established (LC) exam or the Leaving Cert Applied (LCA) exam and 73,600 for the Junior Cycle exam. Minister Norma Foley has confirmed that overall results in this year’s Leaving Cert will be no lower than last year’s results.

This will once again be achieved by allowing the State Examinations Commission (SEC) to apply a post-marking adjustment, which will increase candidates’ marks. The Minister also confirmed that the gradual return to normal Leaving Certificate outcomes will begin in 2025.
There will also be a generous supply of CAO, Tertiary Degrees, Further Education Courses, Apprenticeships, Traineeships and Employment places available for school leavers in a strong economy. So, it’s all good news for candidates lining up for the Leaving Cert exam.
The Leaving Certificate exams, the Junior Cycle exams and the Leaving Certificate Applied (LCA) exams will run until Tuesday, 25th June, Monday, 17th June and Thursday, 13th June, respectively.
Spend an hour or two on Tuesday skimming over your notes for Wednesday’s exams and leave it at that.
Some relaxed leisure will be more beneficial than spending the day cramming material that you may not recall anyway. You need a clear and alert mind going into the exams on Wednesday morning and for the duration of the exam period.

On the evening before each exam subject spend an hour or so looking over your notes so that the important concepts and ideas are fresh in your mind.
Heavy study sessions on the night prior to any paper are not a good idea as you will be exhausted the following morning. Instead, relax and get a good night’s rest.
Put all thoughts of the following day’s exam out of your mind. If you find it difficult to sleep, try a little non-academic reading for a short while.
Check your equipment and assemble your exam materials – black or blue biros, pencils, ruler, eraser, drawing instruments, calculator and so on.
Have at least two biros in case one doesn’t work properly. It’s also time to organise your personal needs such as a watch and tissues.
A few nerves are normal on the first day so be prepared to deal with it. A relaxation exercise or maybe a shower to freshen up will do the trick. Eat a nutritious breakfast as you’ll need the extra reserves of energy. Finally, go through your equipment checklist before leaving home.
On Wednesday morning arrive at the exam centre at least a half hour before the exam begins. For all subsequent exams be present about fifteen minutes before the appointed time.
Spend the few minutes before entering the exam centre on your own in peace and quiet. At all costs, avoid groups that are involved in last minute revision.
If you need to, go to the toilet before you enter the exam centre. Be in your seat a few moments before the exam begins. Synchronise your watch with the clock on the wall and use your watch or the clock to help you pace your work.
Check your seat and desk for firmness and stability. A shaky desk or a wobbly chair will torment you and distract you during the exam. When the answer book is distributed, fill in the required details and read the directions.
When you receive your question paper read the instructions carefully in case there is any change of format.
Don’t be put off by your first glance at the paper. It’s new and it will look unfamiliar at first. Once the exam begins, keep to your prepared answering plan and address the questions that are asked.
If you finish a paper before the time is up, do not leave the exam centre. Recheck your work and extra information may come to you. Attempt an extra question only when you have thoroughly answered the required number of questions.
Once an exam is over, spend as little time as possible on a post-mortem. Focus on the next paper and stay in exam mode until you finish your final subject. Remember the Leaving Cert is a marathon rather than a sprint.
When the entire exam is over, forget about it and enjoy your summer. There is no advantage in dwelling on what might have been. Be happy and satisfied that you have done your best.
Leaving Cert results will be available on Friday, 23rd August and the CAO Round One college offers will quickly follow on Wednesday, 28th August.
The State Examinations Commission (SEC) is holding a second set of exams from the 27th June to the 13th July for candidates who are unable to sit one or more papers in the main sitting in June on grounds of a close family bereavement – funeral preparation and attendance or serious medical conditions – accident, injury or illness.
So, it’s looking very promising for exam candidates. You’ve done the hard work so go in there and reap the rewards. Good luck to all candidates starting exams next week.

JOURNALIST Édaein O’Connell and radio & TV presenter Jamie Ó Flannúra have created a new audio series which sees the duo traverse the county to bring listeners the voices and stories of ten young individuals who have chosen to remain in the county and make it their home.
The series, titled ‘The Magic of Ríocht’, offers a bilingual exploration into why these young people are staying in Ireland amidst a backdrop of increasing emigration through the medium of Irish and English.
According to the Central Statistics Office Population and Migration Estimates released in August of last year, approximately 27,600 Irish people left the country in the year leading up to April 2022.

The Magic of An Ríocht delves into the hearts and minds of these young residents of Kerry, exploring their motivations, passions, and aspirations.
Through ten 15-minute episodes, Édaein and Jamie bring to life the experiences of young people from Listowel, Killarney, Dingle, and beyond.
Each episode highlights the ways in which these young people are contributing to their localities, maintaining their cultural roots, and envisioning a future that is intertwined with the prosperity and vibrancy of their beloved county.
Jamie Ó Flannúra said: “It was fantastic to meet and hear the amazing stories of so many young people who have made Kerry their forever home. I loved listening and seeing first-hand how they have immersed themselves into the county through the community events they are involved with. For me it has been brilliant to also see how they are also involved in promoting the Irish language and culture too within their locality too.”
“There’s a lot of negative press about being a young person and deciding to stay in Ireland right now,” co-host Édaein O’ Connell says.
“A week doesn’t go by without someone I know booking a one-way flight to Australia or Canada. It can feel like that narrative is the same for everyone in their twenties and early thirties, but this series shows that’s not entirely true. Kerry is a vibrant and bustling county that is not only keeping its natives here but is also now the adopted home of many. It’s been a joy to witness just how much love there is for communities here.”
This project was funded by Coimisiun na Meáin and the 10 episodes were originally aired on Radio Kerry throughout April and May.
They will now be released as a 10-part audio series through June and July on Spotify, allowing an even wider audience to engage with these inspiring stories.

KERRY FC 2-1 TREATY UNITED
Kerry FC finished up the Bank Holiday weekend with a game against Treaty United at home in Mounthawk Park.
The last time the two faced each other in Tralee it was for the Munster Senior Cup Semi-Final win that sealed Kerry FC’s place in the final on the twenty-first of June in Turners Cross. Goals from Sean McGrath, Daniel Okwute and Ronan Teahan on the night were enough for Kerry FC to get over the line.
Treaty United did win their last visit to Tralee in the league by just one goal by Yousef Mahdy on the hour mark. Ryan Kelliher unfortunately missed a last kick penalty to grab a point, but Treaty came away with all three.

Since then, they have gone from the top of the league table to eight as they have only won one in their previous seventeen games.
Their win came just last week at home to Longford Town and hoped that the spin down to the Kingdom could start a much-needed run of form for them.
Kerry FC First Team Head Coach Conor McCarthy made only one change from the side which lost to Cobh last Friday night with Ronan Teahan coming in for Daire McCarthy.
The game started with Kerry FC on the front foot with Daniel Okwute’s effort from outside the area going over the crossbar just by a few centimetres after just four minutes.
Kennedy Amechi was struggling from early on as he was limping in the minutes that followed the early chance and was looking to go off prematurely. That however did not stop him from getting the home side in the lead after just eight minutes on the clock.
It was great intricate passing down the right wing that was followed up by a lovely flick into the box by Ryan Kelliher to the feet of Amechi who made no mistakes in slotting the ball into the bottom corner before being replaced by Daire McCarthy shortly thereafter.

Treaty nearly equalised with ten minutes to play in the half as a huge goal line scramble was eventually dealt with by Antonio Tuta. There were shouts for a foul on the Croatian during the play but thankfully he got down well to claim the loose ball in the end.
Kerry had another couple of chances to extend their lead before the break. Ethan Kos got on the end of a Sean O’Connell free kick, but his header was caught well by Corey Chambers.
Ryan Kelliher then hit the post a few minutes later as he got on the end of a low cross into the area from Kevin Williams. Kelliher met the ball at the near post and hit the post before going across the goal line and then being dealt with by the Treaty defenders.
Agonisingly close to the second goal that would have been a great time to score and double the lead on the stroke of half time.
Kerry FC were by far the better team of the half but many times we have thought that and chances went begging to cost the team the points in the long term.
With the side leading at the break people hoped they would come back out in the second half with the same intensity as they left the first half with.
Kerry did just that as they made it 2-0 nine minutes after the break. Valerii Dolia and Ronan Teahan linked up on the left wing before Teahan crossed the ball into the area only for Evan O’Connor to turn the ball into his own net.
Unfortunate for the Treaty defender but it is a slice of luck that the Kerry FC team and fans were delighted with to double their lead.
Kerry had another couple of chances in quick succession eight minutes after the goal with Valerii Dolia shooting from distance. His shot bounced just in front of Chambers to make it harder for the keeper, but he managed to push it away and out for a corner.
Nathan Gleeson then had a shot from a tight angle after shrugging off his marker but again Chambers was on hand to keep out the danger.
Enda Curran came on and was in on the action straight away as he forced Antonio Tuta into a brilliant save with his foot. The ball looked like it could creep into the bottom left corner, but Tuta was there again to make a fantastic save
With fifteen minutes to play Treaty had a route back into the game as they won a penalty when Ronan Teahan tripped Lee Devitt.
Enda Curran stepped up and slotted the spot kick away calmly despite the best efforts from the Kerry FC supporters behind the goal. With that much time left at the end of the game, it was the perfect opportunity for Treaty to get something for their travels.
Their hopes swiftly faded away as Curran was given a straight red card for an off-the-ball incident with Ethan Kos as the American was left holding his face on the deck.

The game went on from there and the seven minutes of added time came and went with Kerry FC holding on to win and claim back-to-back home league wins for the first time in their short history.
With 3 points in the bag, the kingdom now head for Belfield to take on the students of UCD AFC on Friday night next.

OVER €1 million in funding has been grantedfor outdoor recreation projects in Kerry, including €200,000 to further extend the Ballyseedy Wood Amenity Trail.
The investment, under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS), is to enhance forest walks, cycleways, rivers, lakes and beaches across the county.
It will also provide a boost to the local economy by attracting more visitors to rural communities.

The funding also includes €445,140 for construction of a 1.5km extension to the Kilderry Wood Walk in Milltown in mid-Kerry, creating a looped countryside amenity walk of 3.1km.
€200,000 has been granted to repair and upgrade the Jarvey Lane, the 1 km pedestrian/cyclist surface which runs between Killarney town and the main entrance of Killarney National Park.
€198,000 has been made available for recreational support facilities at three Blue Flag beaches — Ballinskelligs, Banna and Rossbeigh. This includes cycle stands, seating and picnic areas, drinking fountains, shower areas and lifeguard facilities.
Welcoming the news, Minister for Education Norma Foley said that the facilities and amenities that the Government are providing funding for under this scheme are making a real difference in communities right across Kerry.
“Today’s announcement will hugely benefit the health and well-being of people of all ages and is so important in terms of attracting visitors to our towns and villages. These amenities are here for us all to enjoy,” Minister Foley said.

THE sun shone and the crowds came out on Sunday for the first Ladies Day of the season at the Island.
As we told you earlier, Mary Woulfe was the winner of Best Dressed Lady, but she had some serious competition as the fine weather was conducive to ladies turning out in style for the occasion as you can see below.

MARY Woulfe, Athea, County Limerick was declared the Best Dressed Lady at the Listowel Races Ladies Day on Sunday.
Judged by top TV and radio presenter Elaine Kinsella, Mary was presented with a cheque for €500 by David Fitzmaurice, Chairman of Listowel Race Company; a hamper from McGuires Pharmacy; designer earrings from Inish Designs and beauty products by Wow and Luna By Lisa.
The two first runners-up were Emma Browne from Kenmare and Anne Leneghan, Kanturk, who both won €250 and a fabulous goodie bag from McGuires Pharmacy, Listowel.
