North Kerry League Kerins O’Rahillys 2-06 Moyvane 1-07

Our U14 girls started their North Kerry league at home to Moyvane last Tuesday in Ballyrickard. We eventually won out in the end by 2pts in a close and hard earned win. We played very well in the first half but with a lot of wides hit we went in leading 1.5 to 0.3, when we should have been further ahead.

Into the second half and Moyvane slowly started to take control of the game and with about 10 minutes left we were 2pts down and looked in trouble, but with the girls never say die attitude we scored a goal and a point to run out winners on a scoreline of 2.6 to 1.7. To the girls credit they never gave up and that turned out to be the difference at the end.

North Kerry League Kerins O’Rahillys 8-08 Beale/Ballybunion 0-04

Our second game was away to Beale last Sunday in Ballybunion and even with an early start and long drive this didn’t affect the girls as they put in a very impressive team performance to win on a scoreline of 8.8 to 0.4. This was an excellent performance with every girl tuned in from the start and played with great confidence.

This game was also an opportunity to play players in different positions that they wouldn’t normally be used to. We now have three games left to play, so we are in a good position now with two wins out of two. Panel C.Pierce, A O’Sullivan, L Scannell, A Doody, S Donegan, C Crowe, N Moran, E Houston, C Donnelly, L Linnane, C Murphy, F Quirke, S Wadding, O Nix, S Healy, T O’Connor, D O’Regan, S Griffin, H Moriarty.

U13 Girls Co Championship Final Kerins O’Rahillys 5-03 Scartaglin 5-04

Our U13 girls played Scartaglin last Wednesday night in Castleisland in the final of their county championship. Unfortunately we suffered a heartbreaking 1pt loss when Scartaglin scored a goal with the last kick of the game.

We started very well and from the throw in we had our first point. We controlled the first half with the girls playing outstanding we went in 5pts up at half time on a score of 3.2 to 1.3.

We knew at half time that Scartaglin would come at us in the second half and as the half wore on they pulled the deficit back to lead by 2pts with about 5mins left. However with the girls commitment and drive we managed to hit back with a goal and a point to put us 2pts up with time almost up, but with one last attack Scartaglin won a free.

The free somehow managed to deceive our girls on the line and finished up in the back of the net to give Scartaglin a 1pt win on a score of 5.4 to 5.3. With victory snatched at the last second the loss was even harder to take.

Every single girl put in a brilliant effort and can be extremely proud of how far they got in the competition. This was an excellent game of football from both teams played at a great pace. Once again a big thanks to all the people that supported the girls throughout the campaign and especially on the night.

The girls still have two competitions to play for starting with North Kerry League next Tuesday evening in Ballyrickard so still plenty of football to be played yet.
