Met Eireann.

WE’VE been enjoying some incredibly mild weather so far this winter, much to the chagrin of oil suppliers and fuel distributors no doubt!

While the sunny weather has been intermittent over the past week, the rain is beginning to make an unwelcome return and it’s getting more and more blustery.

In fact, Met Eireann have issued a Status Yellow Wind Warning for Munster, Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan and Roscommon, with southerly winds, later veering southwest then west, with mean speeds of 45 to 55 km/h, will gust between 90 and 100 km/h. Winds will be strongest near coastal areas.

We’ll also have rain along southern coasts, so it looks pretty bad as the warning comes into effect from Thursday at 6am to Friday at 6am.

Other counties fare worse than ourselves as a Status Orange warning is in place for counties Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo.

The UK Met Office are calling it Storm Abigail, as part of the joint naming systems for storms they have with the Irish Met Office.
