THE three sixth classes at CBS Primary Tralee gained a brilliant insight into life as a photographer in recent weeks.

Local photographer, Ciara O’Donnell visited the students to introduce them to the world of photography. She spoke to them about the basics of photography, the various types of photo and shared some valuable techniques used by photographers.

She took the classes outside around the school grounds on a photography field trip to practise what they had learned. For the past few weeks, the students have been submitting photographs for a competition.

Ciara returned to the school on Tuesday to judge the photographs and she was very impressed with the standard.

One of the 6th Class teachers, Anne O’Sullivan, saw a huge level of enthusiasm from the students; “They loved every minute of it, and we received an overwhelming amount of entries for the competition. It is great to hear the children talking about the background, lighting, exposure etc and I’m sure the project has definitely inspired some future career choices!

“We are indebted to Ciara for giving her time to us, and sharing her expertise. We hope to make it an annual event in 6th class in the future”.

The competition winners were presented with the prizes by Ciara, and they in turn presented Ciara with a token of gratitude.
