AFTER the chaos caused by the rain yesterday, another Status Yellow Thunderstorm and Rain warning is in effect for Kerry today.

Met Eireann says thunderstorms will bring frequent lightning, heavy downpours, gusty winds and the chance of hail to parts of the country today with a chance of localised flooding and difficult travelling conditions. The warning is in effect until 10pm.

The heavy downpour yesterday afternoon wreaked havoc in Tralee with widespread flooding in the town centre. Part of the roof of Dunnes Stores on North Circular Road collapsed letting in large volumes of water into the store and the Omniplex also had to close.

Other businesses in town saw flooding cause temporary closures, while part of University Hospital Kerry was closed for a period of time due to flooding.

Meanwhile, the two lifeguards in Banna injured during the freak weather yesterday are said not to be seriously injured and are recovering.

They were kept in University Hospital Kerry overnight for observation on a precautionary basis. The Council is advising that there will not be lifeguards on duty at Banna Beach today.
