FAOI 15: (i) On Wednesday April 5th our U15 A team travelled to Farranfore to take on Firies in our opening game in Division 1B of the County League.

An entertaining game took place. In the opening 15 minutes excellent end-to-end football was played by both teams. Goals by Harry Murphy and Jake Carmody kept the scoreboard looking good from our point of view and we matched some fine points that were put over the trasnán by the opposition. After 20 minutes we were reduced to 14 players…ochón agus ochón ó…and that proved to be a turning point in the game.

Then an alert David Hobbert finished off a lovely attacking move by putting the ball into the net for our third goal. Two late goals by Firies, however, had the scoreboard reading 2-5 to 3-3 at half-time.

A point ahead! But, unfortunately, a very aggressive second half start by Firies put us on the back foot for the remainder of the encounter. Thankfully, the boys kept their heads up and didn’t give up on the task on hand.

Late goals by Alex Touhy and Adam Johnson, after great team efforts, raised our hearts and spirits somewhat. Rock boys never give up….it’s in ourdeoxyribonucleic acid (DNA)!! We finished the game in attacking mode.

The final play of the game was a penalty that, unfortunately, hit the crossbar! Final score in Farranfore: 5-13 to 5-6. It was great to see some fine strong performances from the boys who played U13 last year. Next up for the A team is a home game against Keel/Listry. This will be a tough challenge and, so, all home support would be greatly appreciated.

(ii) Our U15 B boys were scheduled to host Listowel Emmets on Monday last (10th). (Report next week). And on Wednesday 12th they are scheduled to play away to Kilcummin. Please come and show your support for these young players. (Ger Hobbert)

FAOI 17: Good luck to our MINORS who’ll take on Laune Rangers in Staid an Ghearaltaigh i gCill Airne on Monday next (17th) in the County League FINAL (Division 1). Tosóidh an cluiche ag 6.30pm and good support would be gratefully appreciated. Only the very best of minor teams reach a Division 1 final! Good luck, lads!
