MEMBERSHIP 2022:  Club Registrar, Bernie Mannix, wishes to thank everyone who have paid their Membership for 2022. She wishes to remind everyone who have not paid that they are no longer in weekly Lotto draw and that they will not be eligible for All Ireland tickets should Kerry get to the final.

MOUNTHAWK SPORTS AWARDS: Congratulations to club players Joey Nagle & Clodagh Murray who won their respective Sports Person of the Year Awards at the Mounthawk Secondary School ceremony on Tuesday last (May 17th). Joey, of course, was part of the Austin Stacks Senior Co. Championship winning team in 2021 and also recently won a Munster U20 Championship with Kerry. Clodagh is a current member of the Kerry Minor Ladies team and has been a star player for the school Basketball & football team throughout her time in Mounthawk. Well done to you both and a shout out to proud parents Malachy & Eileen Nagle & John & Xavier Murray.

SENIOR FOOTBALL: Austin Stacks 2-11; Rathmore 0-12.

Our round 7 game of the Co. League went ahead in Connolly Park on last Friday evening (20th May) and after a fairly evenly contested game our lads came out eventual winners with five points to spare at the end.

David Mannix opened the scoring with a well-taken pointed free inside the 4th minute. Unfortunately David had to be replaced a few minutes later after picking up an injury. We wish him a full and speedy recovery. For most of the rest of the half the visitors were slightly in command just outscoring us by six points to five. Darragh O’Brien, who replaced David, scored three of those points with Cian Purcell and Adam Curran also on target. But as we approached half time it was that man Cian who put us on the road to victory with a well-taken goal in the 29th minute. Both sides added a point each before the break – ours coming from team captain, Michael O’Donnell – to leave us ahead by a goal at half time (1-7 to 0-7).

During the first 20 minutes of the second half Rathmore kept in touch, scoring four points to our three during that period. Gearóid Fitzgerald, who ended a fine game as Celsius Menswear Man of the Match, Adam Curran and Conor Horan were our scorers at that stage. But the score that settled the game came in the 52ndminute, and it was Cian Purcell again who was at the end of another great Stacks move to score his second goal of the game and make sure of the victory for us. Both sides had a point each after that – ours coming from a Jordan Kissane free, playing in his first senior game for the Club. Also good to see Joey Nagle, Armin Heinrich and Adam Curran playing their first Club games since last January after their sojourn with the Kerry U20s with all three playing superbly.

Team: Ben Quilter, Barry Walsh, Barry Shanahan, Joey Nagle, Armin Heinrich, Ronan Shanahan, Niall Fitzmaurice, Michael O’Donnell (Capt) (0-1), Fiachna Mangan, Adam Curran (0-2), David Mannix (0-1 free), Conor Horan (0-1), Seán Quilter, Gearóid Fitzgerald (0-1), Cian Purcell (2-1).

Subs used: Darragh O’Brien (11m) (0-3 –one free), Greg Horan (ht), Jordan Kissane (41m) (0-1).

Our postponed round six game, away to Dr. Crokes, goes ahead at Lewis Road on next Friday evening (27th May) at 7.30pm.

B FOOTBALL: Cordal 1-9; Austin Stacks 2-15.

With one draw and five defeats in our opening six games of the season this round 7 game of the Co. League, played in Cordal on this Sunday afternoon (22nd May) , saw us chalk up our first win after an outstanding performance by all eighteen players who lined out during the course of the hour. Most of the action took place during the first half (although there was a different type of action towards the end of the second half – the less said, the better) with a total of 19 scores, with less than half of that during the second half (eight scores).

The home side opened the scoring after  a minute. And that was the only time they led in the game . Two minutes later Shane O’Callaghan opened our account with a point from play and Calla was involved again a minute later with a beautiful tap down into the path of Calvin Foley who netted superbly. Shane added a further four points during the course of the half with three other players getting on the score sheet as well – Jordan Kissane, two from frees and one each from play by Cian Dillane and Dean Rusk, with our 9th point coming from Calvin Foley and our last score of the half coming from a Shane O’Callaghan goal to leave us ahead at the break by 2-9 to 0-8.

Like the first half Cordal opened the second half scoring with a point. After that we scored a further five on the trot – four more by Calla and one from Calvin. The home side goaled in the 54thminute, with the final score of the game coming on the stroke of full time with Shane on target again, to bring his total for the day to a goal and eight points.

Team: Ben Quilter, Ruairí O’Connell, Paul Barrett (Capt), John Murphy, Luke Chester, Donagh McMahon, Cian Dillane (0-1), Dara Barry-Walsh, Dean Rusk (0-1), Jordan Kissane (0-3 – two frees), Gearóid Sheehan, Andrew Morrissey, Conor Myers, Shane O’Callaghan (1-8 – two frees)), Calvin Foley (1-2).

Subs used: David Burke (48m), Evan Foley (48m), Enda Cahill (52m).

We have a home game now against Duagh in round 8 of the Co. League on the weekend after next.

ANDREW MORRISSEY: You will see Andrew’s name in the previous item, lining out at number 12 with the B team for Sunday’s 1pm game in Cordal. Two days before that he was on the SF panel for the 7.30pm game in Connolly Park. In between, on the Saturday, he was in Belfast, commentating with his colleague, Mike O’Halloran on the Kerry/Antrim game in the Joe McDonagh Cup. Well done to Kerry on that great victory. But back to Andrew. He has been an outstanding Club player at both Hurling and Football since he arrived here from Cork in 2008 and of course his Radio Kerry morning programme with ‘Andrew & Elaine’ is a ‘must’ to listen to. Well done Andrew.

MINOR FOOTBALL: After going down away to Laune Rangers in the opening round our Minors had a draw against Ardfert last week (16th May) in round 2 of the Central League 2-7 each) and were playing Keel/Listry at home on Monday evening – check our website for details.
