FAOI 13/14

After the brilliant buzz in Barna at the Féile Náisiúnta Peile, it has been ‘catch-up’ time in the Central League for both A and B teams.

(i) Since returning from Galway, we have defeated Annascaul/Lispole (8-11 to 1-11), we’ll play away to Mitchels on Thursday and follow with another ‘back’ game on Monday 21st against Laune Rangers. A win in either ‘back’ encounters should be enough to see us into the semi-finals. The Bs defeated Laune Rangers B (6-16 to 7-3) and played Ardfert on Monday 14th; a victory could also have our Bs in the semi-finals! Bheadh sin go deas!

(ii) While all this has been going on we also have A and B teams playing in the Under 13 Town Leagues. Our great and gallant Bs (all Under 12), playing the game of their lives, pushed the Ardfert Under 13s to the wire before coming up short! The As have played two local derbies against (a somewhat understrength) Strand Road and Na Gaeil in Division 1 and had comfortable wins in both.

Shane Bastible tormented The Blues’ defenders and netted three times. Liam ‘Star’ Nolan, who is back and playing at his brilliant best, made strong runs through the opposition’s defence.

Conor Myers’ constant movements dazzled the Strand Road defenders and Armin Heinrick disdplayed his great range of passing skills with pin point accuracy. Dara Barry-Walsh moved from his usual halfback position to the forward line and was rewarded with a fine goal for his hard work.

(iii) Our second derby of the week was in Killeen against a well-drilled group of players who had won their opening game against Ballymac.

However, our boys played superbly for the hour agus tháinig siad abhaile leis na pointí. Seán Quilter’s second half unstoppable shot (which a senior ‘keeper wouldn’t have saved) shivered the net. We witnessed another Bastible hat trick, this time from Joe who had the large Rockie supporters jumping for joy.

Not to be outdone by his older team mates, Niall Fitzmaurice got the score of the game at the end of a fantastic kick passing move involving 8 or 9 Rock players. As always David Oba was rock solid in goals and made two point blank saves. Craig Ó Tíocháin, Danny Draghici, David de Búrca and Laoch an Chluiche, Pádraic Linnane, were in unbeatable form. We, indeed, wrestled another wonderful win.

(iv) Next games will be on Sunday 20th when the Under 13As make a trip to Ballymac and the Bs will play v Naomh Pádraig i bPáirc Uí Chonghaile. Go n-éirí go geal libh, a leaideanna!
