INSTEAD of accepting 40th birthday gifts for himself, a well-known Blennerville man decided to help out a worthy charity.

Kieran O’Shea of O’Shea’s Gala Shop and Petrol Station in Blennerville, raised €1,200 for the Kerry based cystic fibrosis charity, Build 4 Life, by asking guests at his birthday bash to donate to the organisation instead.

Those attending dug deep at the party held in Benners Hotel last month.

“It’s a cause that is very close to my heart,” said Kieran O’Shea.

“I just thought that instead of getting presents and cards or whatever for myself I’d donate to cystic fibrosis. In fairness people were very generous as you can see from the money raised,” said Kieran.

After getting to know a woman who regularly came into O’Sheas shop and subsequently passed away because of cystic fibrosis, Kieran was moved to support the charity. He also has good friends and customers who live in the Blennerville area who suffer with the illness.

And it’s not the first time the staunch St Pats man raised money for Build 4 Life. Ten years ago, Kieran ran the Dublin City Marathon and donated  €6,000 to Build 4 Life. Fair play Kieran.
