WITH the holidays closing in, Caherleaheen NS held a special day to celebrate some recent achievements by the pupils and the school.

Monday saw Sean Kelly MEP and Sean Ryan of Aspen Grove pay a visit to help raise the three flags — Green Flag, Junior Entrepreneur Programme Flag and Health Promoting School/Active Schools Flag — in the school yard and to recognise the school receiving the Science Foundation Ireland Science Plaque this year.

It was also an opportunity to honour the success of the school’s athletes who won medals in the recent Kerry Schools meeting. These included individual winners Ruby Crean, Tadhg Healy and Sean Murphy as well as the relay teams from first/second and third/fourth class.

Paul Griffin of Tralee Harriers was also honoured with a Caheleaheen Community Medal but unfortunately could not attend on the day.

Principal of Caherleaheen NS, Mary Connolly, also thanked Sean Ryan of Aspen Grove for donating a defibrillator to the school. With all that activity and hard work, both staff and pupils are due a well-earned break when they get their holidays at the end of next week.
