A Celebration Of Irish Culture At The Meadowlands

IRISH lovers are asked to come together for what’s billed as ‘A Weekend of Language and Culture and Literature’ which will kick off this Friday night at the Meadowlands Hotel.

The Irish language event, Éigse Fhilí Chiarraí 2014, begins on Friday night at 8pm with a slide presentation of Kerry’s Flora and Fauna by Kerry O’Malley.

On Saturday, there will be a coffee morning, at 11:30am at the hotel. This will be a great chance for people to get to know one another. Poet, short story writer and novelist Michael O’Rourke who will also be in attendance.

The coffee morning will then be followed by a History tour by historian John Joseph O’Connor who is an Irish language activist and the author of ‘Kilmoyley to the Rescue’. The tour will depart from the Meadowlands at 2.30pm.

The day of culture will be rounded off with a night of ‘Fonn, Fíon agus Filíocht’ with readins from author Brighid Moran and poet Michael O’Rourke.

The event is organised by Conradh na Gaeilge, in association with the Scríbhneoirí Gaeilge Chiarraí, and with assistance from Foras na Gaeilge.
