St. Brendan’s Championship Final: St Pats 1-14 v Churchill 0-14.

St Pats are the 2018 St Brendan’s Championship winners, beating Churchill in a hard fought final under lights in Caherslee on Saturday evening.

After a bright start, Churchill led by 7points to 2 after 15 minutes, but failed to score for the remainder of the half. St Pats to their credit fought back and registered 1-05 unanswered scores before the break to lead by 1-07 to 0-07.

The goal came from a quick counter attack after St Pats turned over the ball when Churchill looked likely to score.

Our lads battled bravely in the second half and managed to reduce the deficit to 1 point nearing the end of the game. However, St Pats were able to control the ball in the final stages of the game and added two more points to secure a well deserved 3 point victory.

This was our final game in what has been a very successful season that saw us promoted to Division 4 as League Champions and we narrowly lost by a point to Beaufort in the Junior Premier Championship Semi-Final , after extra time.  This season also saw us reach both the St Brendan’s League and Championship Finals, just coming up short in both.  This is a very talented and youthful squad and the future is looking bright for the coming seasons.

Friends of Churchill: The development of the playing facilities in Churchill is continuing at pace.  To date the project has cost over €750,000 to provide a top class all weather grass pitch and associated club house and parking.  We are progressing well in our target to raise up to €70,000 through our Friends of Churchill Scheme and information notices have gone out to homes across the parish.  To donate please contact any member of the executive.
