U16

Churchill had a hard fought battle against Dingle last Wednesday evening in Churchill. Churchill played extremely well throughout and looked to be in control nearing the end. However a small lapse of concentration left Dingle in for a goal for them to take the lead in injury time. Churchill did not give up and with the last kick of the game struck for the equaliser for a well deserved draw. Churchill 0-11 : Dingle 1-08.

Next up for the U-16’s is an away fixture at Kenmare on Wednesday evening at 7pm. Best of luck lads.

U14:

The u14 had a comprehensive win at home against Ardfert on a score of 8-13 : 6-04. This win progresses them to the knock out stage of the competition where Churchill take on Castleisland Desmond’s in the semi-final of the div2 central league on Monday evening in The Spa at 7pm.

Academy

The u8 and u10 teams took part in the John Mitchels blitz on Saturday.

The u10 started their campaign with a comfortable win against the hosts John Mitchels. Next up was the perceived crunch game of their group against Miltown/Castlemaine.

Churchill were under the cosh throughout but did not give up despite being 5 points down.  A late goal from Billy Doyle meant we won by a point. Churchill went on to comfortably win their last 2 games against St. Pats and Strand Road meaning they reached the final.

With great support from the u8’s the final kicked off at 3:30 against Austin Stacks. Churchill got a great start with a goal from Hugh Lenihan. They continued to fight on but were unable to add to this. In the end Austin Stacks went on to win on a score of 2-03 to 1-00. Well done to Churchill for a great effort.

The u8 also started their campaign against the host Mitchels. Churchill played extremely well but attempted to score goals on a few occasions when points were on offer.

They ended up losing 0-03 to 0-01. From this game on they played brilliantly scoring a wealth of goals and points against opposing teams of Miltown/ Castlemaine, Ardfert, St. Pats and Kerins  O’Rahillys.  In the end they won 4 out of 5 games and should be very proud of their efforts.

All-in- all it was a great day. Congratulations to Austin Stacks in winning the u10 title. Big thank you to John Mitchels for running a great event and the results here suggest Churchill should be in a good position for the Siobhan Cotter tournament later in the year.

Seniors:

Churchill 1-09: Lispole 3-20.

Both sides came into this game knowing anything but a win would leave them in real danger of relegation to Division 5. A very young Churchill side struggled to get going in this game and 2 first half goals from Lispole’s Declan O’Sullivan had the visitors leading by 2-10 to 0-06 at the break and the game was effectively out of reach.

Churchill rallied early in the second half and a fine goal from Oisin O’Brien gave Churchill a glimmer of hope, but Lispole regained control around the middle and dominated the remainder of the match. Man of the match, Declan O’Sullivan, was at the end of everything for Lispole, who ran out comfortable winners in the end.
