A LOCAL councillor says Tralee needs to be marketed as a destination for tourists coming to the Ryder Cup in Adare in 2027.

Speaking at the Tralee Municipal District meeting on Monday, Cllr. Mikey Sheehy asked that as the event approaches that the Tralee MD considers a marketing plan to promote Tralee as a travel destination for the event.

In reply, Kerry County Council said they will shortly be launching a new county-wide marketing platform which will promote the best of what Kerry has to offer.

They said it will be an important tool in promoting Kerry as a place to visit for the Ryder Cup, and other events and they will continually pursue funding opportunities to build on the marketing platform and to develop targeted marketing campaigns.

Cllr Sheehy said it’s a huge event on our doorstep and that the Tralee MD can’t rely on other entities to promote the area. He said there’s still time for the MD to develop a marketing campaign for the Ryder Cup to attract tourism.

Cllr Sheehy said there is huge potential to market the town and the economic benefits to Tralee could be significant.
