A LOCAL councillor has asked that the Council immediately remove the shed in the community garden in the Town Park as this is attracting an anti-social element.

Independent Cllr Sam Locke made the request at the meeting of the Tralee Municipal District of Kerry County Council this morning.

In reply, Council management said the shed forms a part of the Tralee Community Garden and is not managed directly by Tralee MD.

The covered space was constructed to facilitate the delivery of the courses and workshops during periods of adverse weather. Furthermore, the roof of the covered space is used to harvest rainwater for use within the garden generally.

They said they would raise the concerns of Anti-Social behaviour with the Tralee Community Garden Committee and An Garda Síochána.

Cllr Locke said he couldn’t understand how a structure which was providing a haven for individuals who were abusing drink and drugs and intimidating people could be allowed to remain.

He also questioned why the roof was used to harvest rainwater in a Town Park that was frequently flooded.

Cllr Locke said he wanted to get the people who were causing problems out of the town park and the Council needed “to open its eyes” to what was going on.
