FIANNA Fail councillor Norma Foley and Labour’s Graham Spring were nominated to the board of Tralee Chamber Alliance at Monday’s meeting of the Municipal District of Tralee.
But it wasn’t without a request from Sinn Fein’s Toireasa Ferris to allow her party colleague, Cllr Pa Daly to be appointed to the board, due to him being the only member of the Tralee Municipal District of the Council with a business in the town centre.
Cllr Ferris appealed “in the interests of fairness” to consider that, as Pa Daly has a business in the town centre and he almost topped the poll in the May election, would the parties put their voting agreement aside and allow him to take a place on the board.
“Are Fine Gael, Labour and Fianna Fail going to disregard the will of nearly 40% of the electorate?” she asked, referring to the votes both she and Cllr Daly received in the May election.
In the end Cllr Terry O’Brien proposed Cllr Spring, seconded by Cllr Pat McCarthy, who then proposed Cllr Foley, seconded by Cllr Jim Finucane.
