KERRY County Council has placed 10 beaches on a ‘prior warning’ notice because of the potential for heavy downpours today and tonight.

They say that, based on the Met Eireann Yellow Rain Warnings, which forecasts intense and potentially thundery downpours during Thursday and Thursday night, ‘Prior Warning’ notices have been put in place at the beaches for the next 48 hours.

While a prior-warning is not a bathing prohibition, it advises the public that bathing water quality may be impacted due to heavy rainfall.

The beaches are;

• Ballybunion North & South,
• Ballyheigue,
• Banna,
• Fenit,
• Maharabeg,
• Ventry,
• Kells,
• Cuas Crom
• White Strand (Caherciveen).

However, judging by the predicted rainfall radar on the Met Éireann website, it looks like Kerry will escape most of the heavy rain.
