Council Receives Rates Rebate Of Over €11.7m

KERRY County Council has to this point in November received a total sum of €11,778,139.23 of a commercial rates rebate from the Government.

The rates rebate covers the period from March – January since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic. This is not the full allocation as a further payment will issue to the local authority in the coming weeks.

Welcoming the news, Minister for Education and Fianna Fail TD for Kerry, Norma Foley commented: “I am very aware that commercial rates are the backbone of local authority income which meansthat vital services such as playgrounds, sports facilities, library services and much more can keep operating to serve the county.

“I am also keenly aware of the important leadership role of Kerry County Council across a wide spectrum of areas and would like to particularly commend them for the constructiveand proactive manner in which they have faced the challenges and impact of the Covid-19 pandemic in our county,” Foley concluded.
