THE Council is to renew the call for Expressions of Interest in the Fels Point Site in Tralee.

At the meeting of Tralee Municipal District councillors on Thursday, Fine Gael Cllr Jim Finucane asked when will the expression of interest for Fels Point Site in Tralee be completed.

In reply, Council management said in March 2020 Kerry County Council advertised Expressions of Interest (EOI) for the two Fels Point opportunity sites in Tralee.

This EOI process coincided with the start of the global Covid-19 pandemic. Due the unprecedented impact of the pandemic and the impact of other global events in the intervening period, they felt that it would be prudent that a renewed call for Expressions of Interest would now be made. This process will be initiated before the end of March 2023.

Cllr Finucane said there was to be a feasibility study in relation to a structure similar to the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence near Ballyhaunis and this would be an important part of the process.

He said it is an attractive, strategic site in public ownership and it was important to bring it to the attention of investors to utilise it for the creation of jobs.

Cllr Finucane said there was a possibility the question of a permanent home for the Rose of Tralee could also be answered with the correct use of the site.
