DO you have an interest in the unique wildlife and biodiversity of Kerry? Would you like to learn more about the different types of bird, animals, insects and other creatures great and small that live with us in the Kingdom?
Biodiversity Week is coming next week and offers a range of family friendly, fun events that celebrate Kerry’s wildlife.
From 18 to 26 May, Kerry County Council in association with several local groups, are running a number of events, days out, walks and talks on the many wonderful aspects of Kerry’s wildlife.

“The series kicks off with a family friendly seashore bio-blitz in Waterville followed by rock pool dipping and other sea safaris throughout the week,” explained Cathy Fisher, Biodiversity Officer with Kerry County Council.
“A walk and talk on the Maharees Peninsula is hosted on Sunday next. This year, film will again form part of the week thanks to events organised by Siamsa Tíre. Killarney House has a series of events planned and our ever-popular nocturnal ramble in Killarney National Park and bat walk in Ballseedy, Tralee are also back. Annascaul is packed with events, not to mention events in Ballylongford and Finuge. So get out and about over the week – there is loads to choose from,” she said.
Events are co-ordinated by Niamh Ní Dhúill and the Kerry Branch of the Irish Wildlife Trust with support from Ballylongford Tidy Towns, Tralee Bay Wetlands Centre, Annascaul Adventures, Maharees Conservation Association, Gortbrack Farm, Transition Kerry, and the Kerry Education and Training Board. The programme of events is funded by Kerry County Council.
The events are open to everyone and many are suitable for children. Booking is required for some events.
