WHEN Yummy Cafe Market opened in Tralee back in 2013, it was a breath of fresh air with its inventive food, cool interiors and a welcoming atmosphere for families.

Sometimes a cafe or any business can lose its lustre, take its eye off the ball and slip in standards…but not Yummy!

They are consistently rated in the top 2 restaurants in Tralee on Tripadvisor and just last month, new and delicious dishes have been added to their extensive menu.

The result? The place is still thriving and delivering high standards in dining for the people of Tralee.

Yummy Cafe’s rustic interior has proved a hit with diners.

“We’re very well known for catering for young families – and that’s what our core market is – but, of course, the food is just as important and has to be right,” said Ken Tobin who, with his wife Emer, runs the business on Dominick Street.

“We redesigned our menu in mid-May and got Mark Doe of ‘Just Cooking’ to come up with a few exclusive things for us, so we’ve changed around a lot of things that we know people are going to like,” said Ken.

“We have something at every price point on the menu so no matter what you want, you’ll get well-fed with great dishes,” said Ken, who believes it’s an exciting time for food in Tralee with so many new places to eat in town.

“Tralee is getting a good reputation with a great mix of places to eat and we’re rising to that challenge to keep up our high standards,” he said.

It’s not just the quality of food though that gives Yummy its great reputation. Service matters.

“We’ve got it down to a tee here with our quick service. If somebody has only a half hour for lunch, they know they can come in and be served promptly with delicious food, relax and be back in time for work.”

Some of Ken’s favourite things on the menu at the moment are their new flatbreads and gourmet pizzas with fresh toppings.

A taste of the Med at Yummy.

“Everything is done from scratch and there’s nothing out of a packet – fresh soups, fresh veg and meats from local suppliers. We source as much as we can locally and it’s delivered every day. It’s a lot of extra work in the kitchen but you can see – and taste – the results,” said Ken.

When it comes to food, service and a welcoming atmosphere for all ages, Yummy Cafe takes some beating.
