SPA National School was hive of excitement and anticipation at Spa NS on Monday as the 2023 ‘Donal Walsh Spa 6K Challenge’ was launched.

This hugely popular event was first held in 2014 and has become a firm favourite on the community calendar in the Spa.

This year’s event coincides with the tenth anniversary of Donal’s passing. The whole school community is busy organising another family fun day in honour of Donal, their past pupil on Sunday May 28.

“Donal and his “live life” message have provided much inspiration and hope to so many over the past ten years,” said school principal Peter Linehan.

“We want to yet again celebrate and honour Donal in our own special way and that’s why our super committee is working to create an event where people of all ages and fitness levels can come together for a few hours, have fun and ‘live life’ just as Donal urged us all to.”

“Huge credit must go to our Parents Association who have been working tirelessly over the past few weeks to ensure that everything will be ready,” added Peter.

The school will certainly be a hive of activity with a fabulous market in operation and children from 6th class coordinating fun games and challenges for young and old all day.

The Parent’s Association is also organising a barbeque on site with teas and tasty treats also being served up as well.  There will be live music and Your Man’s puppets will host a lively show to entertain everyone.

However, the main event of the day will be the ‘Spa 6K Challenge’ a 6 km looped run/walk starting and finishing at the school. Donal’s parents Fionnbar & Elma will yet again officially start the run/walk at 11.30am.

Everyone is welcome to come along and register from 10am on the morning, but they can also pre register (for reduced entry fees) on the school website www.spanationalschool.ie . Please call 066 7136618 or e mail  info@spanationalschool.ie for full details.
