Gardaí In Tralee To Crackdown On Electric Scooters Used Illegally In Public Places

GARDAI have received a number of complaints from the public regarding the use of e-scooters on the streets of Tralee, particularly on footpaths and pedestrianised areas of town.

Gardai say e-scooters, hoverboards and electric bikes are all defined as mechanically propelled vehicles (MPVs) and under the Road Traffic Act a licence, insurance and tax is needed to operate an e-scooter in a public area or on the road.

Gardaí are asking young people not to use e-scooters in public places and they will be seizing the scooters if the owner can’t produce a licence.  Gardaí say they are causing a nuisance around town to pedestrians.

Gardai in Tralee are also encouraging members of the public to contact them if they see e-scooters being used on footpaths and in pedestrianised areas, and indeed any other kind of anti-social behaviour, by calling Tralee Garda Station on 066-7102300.

About time the law is enforced?

  2. this law should be scrapped and e-scooters should be free from the overpriced insurance and tax and the garda should go after these insurance companies and useless judges…

  3. What is wrong with bicycles? .. these things should be fully banned as a public menace
