The damage to the Christmas Crib in Tralee before Christmas.

GARDAI are again asking for members of the public to assist them in their investigation into the damage caused to the crib in the Square at Christmas.

On the night Saturday, December 23, at around 11.30pm, a group of three or four youths were seen next to the crib. Soon after, the perspex was broken and the baby Jesus figure taken from the crib, but it was later recovered. It was the second year in a row that the crib had been damaged.

Gardaí have made headway in the investigation but are looking for anyone who witnessed the incident or knows who the culprits are to contact them at Tralee Garda Station on 066-7102300.

Tralee Gardaí, good luck with yet another appeal to the public to puck up the pieces for you!

However, may I suggest the no brainer thing to do next year is to do a bit of crime prevention instead of the usual appeals to the public after the crime is committed.

Maybe, Tralee Gardaí have a crime prevention officer and he/she could speak to the Kerry County Council about crime prevention and possibly a more secure structure around the Christmas crib to protect it, a silent alarm being fitted to the structure or even a CCTV camera?

I have not received the specialised training from the Templemore Garda college. I do not have a so called B.A in Applied Policing is the Foundation Programme for Garda Trainees.
So, I am just speaking off the top of my head.
