Here’s The Full Line-Up Of Events For Culture Night In Tralee

Culture Night is upon us once again and no matter what area of the arts you’re into, you’ll find something to enjoy tonight. And it’s all FREE. Here’s the full line-up of events, both indoor and outdoor in town tonight…

• Collis Sandes House

Take a guided walk/tour through the history of Collis Sandes House with musical accompaniment from string students of Sempre Music Academy.

Pierce O’Brien will walk you through the history of the house and the lives of those who have lived there. It takes place from 7pm to 7.45pm.

• Kerry County Museum

Enjoy a stroll through the Museum and discover engaging exhibitions and interactive displays. These include ‘Gowns of Glory’, a special exhibition showcasing the Rose of Tralee winner’s dresses.

On the Museum’s Medieval Experience, meet colourful characters from the past and find out what life was like 600 years ago.

Meanwhile, ‘Inclusion’ is a temporary exhibition exploring home and homelessness by children and young people from County Kerry, the exhibition was facilitated by Novas, the homeless charity and artist Jeannine Storan.

‘Inclusion’ begins at 5pm and the Museum attractions are free from 6pm to 10pm

• Siamsa Tíre

Curator Máirtín Ó Cathasaigh is hosting two open trad sessions, at which young people will be invited to sing and play together, sharing their skills and learning from each other.

September’s Trad Connections concert will feature pianist Deirdre Millane, flute and concertina player Róisín Comer and Danny Collins on piano accordion, bodhrán, banjo, and fiddle.

They take place from 7.30pm to 9pm and 9pm to 12 midnight. Call Siamsa for more.

The Irish National Opera will also be in residence for a special studio recital, at which performers will sing a selection of arias and other operatic excerpts from across the canon in an intimate studio setting from 6.30pm to 7.15pm.

There will also be a free screening of 20 Shots of Opera, a film which features 20 short operas performed by Irish National Opera’s biggest talents from 4pm.

• Mercy Mounthawk

CÉILÍ Afro Dabke Ukraine is an explosion of multi-cultural dance and music from Catherine Young Dance.

The evening will kick off with an excerpt of Young’s recent work ‘A Call to You’ – inspired by Ukrainian folk dance, featuring a cast of outstanding international performers & live music, which premiered at the Dublin Dance Festival in May.

The floor will then open up for everyone to join in and dance! Learn Ukrainian folk dance, African dance and traditional Irish céilí dances.

Suitable for all ages, it starts at 7 pm and ends at 9.15 pm.

• The Greyhound Bar

‘Paradise Cabaret’ is a whirlwind journey into a comically absurd, skilfully slick and ridiculously entertaining Cabaret with comedy, dance and music, strictly for over 18 audiences, taking place from 8pm to 12 midnight.

Paradise Cabaret is built on a community of artists, performers, designers, creatives, all with the same thrill seeking mission and fabulous commitment to performance, vibe and fun-fuelled debauchery.

• The Square

Kerry International Film Festival presents a programme of short films in an outdoor film screening in the The Square.

The event will be a celebration of Irish culture and the line-up will include films in both English and Irish along with films from Kerry filmmakers. It takes place between 8pm and 11pm.

• Island of Geese

At the new amphitheatre at the Island of Geese, people can enjoy ‘Firestorm’. Three of Ireland’s most skilled fire performers present a show that has something for everyone.

This spectacularly entertaining fire show has been enjoyed by families around the world from Ireland to Taiwan. The three performers will be joined by artist and performer Hannes Jung on his spectacular creation, the Firedragon.

Set to a scintillating soundtrack this show will wow all before it. The family friendly event takes place from 8.15pm to 9pm.

• Parklands/Ivy Terrace

Awaken Mabon Awaken Youth – Cónocht an Fhómhair / Autumn Equinox takes place from 9pm to 12 midnight and everyone can just turn up to enjoy the free entertainment.

Presented by Shannon Star Entertainment, this is a free cultural celebration concert of the Autumn Equinox with Druids, DJs, fire and music from artists and bands in Kerry featuring the Dingle Druid, Oracle, The Rising and Aftershock and culminating in the Awaken Mabon Fire Spectacle.
