Our hurling writer, Mike O’Halloran, on a great victory for the Kerry hurlers yesterday…

Kerry hurlers were absolutely brilliant in a surprise one point away win over Carlow on Sunday in round four of Div 2A, played at Netwatch Dr Cullen Park.

The win was delivered by Padraigh Boyle with the last puck of the game, when he drove over a free.

Kerry management have stated that winning the Christy Ring Cup is their main aim for 2015 and I wrote last week that a big improvement was needed to even think of winning that title.

My word, what an improvement took place in a week. Kerry were worthy winners of a fantastic game played at championship pace.

Kerry were dogged at the back and with slick accurate passing between backs midfield and forwards put Carlow under all kinds of pressure.

Kerry led 0-15 to 1-8  at halftime and given that John Egan had a goal chance and Shane Nolan received a knock that saw him hand over the free taking duties to Padraigh Boyle, the margin could have been wider.

Carlow did come back into it in the second half and were level in injury time but Kerry put pressure on their own puck out and won a free which Padraigh struck between the post for the well deserved one point win.

Kerry play London next week and are in with a chance of making the play offs which would be great preparation for the Christy Ring Cup.
