THE Institute of Guidance Counsellors has launched their annual IGC Conference which will take place in Munster Technological University on March 8 and 9.
This year’s conference theme, “Sustaining Guidance into the Future,” is aligned with the United Nations’ seventeen sustainable goals aimed at transforming the world.
“We have selected this theme for our conference to work towards ending discrimination in education, ensuring that no one is left behind,” said Michelle Brown Hanafin, Chairperson of IGC Kerry Branch.

Keynote speakers include Dr Richard Hogan, author and psychotherapist and Prof Peter Robertson, Edinburgh Napier University, lecturer on the Postgraduate Diploma in Career Guidance and Development, President of the Career Development Institute (CDI) and fellow of the National Institute for Career Education & Counselling. Workshop presenters include Bronagh Starrs, internationally renowned Adolescent Psychotherapist and Catherine Carty, UNESCO Chair Manager at MTU.
MTU President Maggie Cusack commented: “We are delighted to host the IGC’s national conference for the first time at MTU. Young people face a myriad of options in higher education and I’m very grateful for the essential role that guidance counsellors play in helping school pupils and learners to successfully navigate the various pathways and choices available. This conference is an opportunity to explore how we can include even more learners in higher education and bring about greater equality, diversity and inclusion.”
