IT Tralee To Host Summer Camps To Foster Computer Skills And Entrepreneurship

IT Tralee has announced details of two low cost summer camps for young people aged between 10 and 16.

The camps are named Goalmine and STEAMing Ahead and are based around fostering computer skills and entrepreneurship.

Goalmine is a 5-day non residential living-lab experience targeted at secondary level students using learning tools such as design driving innovation and LEGO Serious Play.

Goalmine creates an experiential learning environment allowing all participants between the ages of 12 years and 16 years of age to explore their individual entrepreneurial, creative and innovative mind-set.

Using thinking tools such as LEGO Serious Play and Design Thinking, each member of the team will invest their time and money into an idea they create and will have the opportunity to win the camp registration fee of €50.

It takes place in IT Tralee, North Campus from 9.30am – 3.00pm. Week 1 is from July 8th – July 12th (bus provided from Dingle & Listowel). Week 2 is from July 15th – July 19th (bus provided from Killarney).

Meanwhile, STEAMing Ahead is a 5-day non-residential, experiential learning camp suitable for beginners interested in exploring the world of coding, robotics and animation.

STEAMing Ahead creates a fun based learning environment, allowing all participants between the ages of 10 years and 16 years of age to explore coding and areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM).

Participants will be introduced to coding using graphical programming tools, similar to Scratch. They will work as individuals and in teams to develop applications focused on tasks that include, manipulating robots and drones around obstacle courses, developing games and creating animations.

Again, it takes place in IT Tralee, North Campus from 9.30am – 3.00pm. Week 1 takes place from July 8th – July 12th (bus provided from Dingle & Listowel). Week 2: July 15th – July 19th (bus provided from Killarney).
