IT’S time to get the walking shoes out to prepare for an annual charity event which is always great fun.

The Jamie Wrenn Walk is an event which has raised tens of thousands for charity over the past six years and organisers are hoping people support it again when it takes place on Saturday, July 23 this year.

Back in 1999, Castlegregory man Jamie Wrenn, began a charity walk in aid of cancer services that has become a long standing tradition. A cancer sufferer himself, unfortunately Jamie lost his battle with the disease in 2008.

In 2010 with the permission from the Wrenn family, the walk was revived and since then almost €70,000 has been raised for charity, raising nearly €12,000 last year for Kerry Hospice.

This year, the organisers have decided to carry out the walk in aid of Recovery Haven.

The walk sets off at 10am from the Aquadome and along the way, the walkers stop off for refreshments at O’Sheas in Curraheen, then The Junction Bar, Camp and finally at the Seven Hogs before reaching the final destination in Castlegregory. There is also an hop-on/hop-off bus if things get too much!

Sponsorship cards are available from Recovery Haven or by calling Mary Lynch on 0871332179 or Sandra Finn on 0838421418. It’s always a great, fun event and loads of money is raised for charity.
