SENIORS
Co League 2018 – Round 3 Templenoe v John Mitchels

We played Templenoe away in the 3rd Round of the Division 1 County Senior Football League last Saturday evening.

The evening was dry with a strong breeze which favoured Templenoe in the 1st half. The 1st quarter was dominated by Templenoe who scored 3 points from play, 2 by Stephen O’Sullivan and 1 by Pat Spillane.

It took 20 minutes for Mitchels to get their first score with a point from play by Shane O’Connor. Templenoe followed with a further 3 points from play which left the scoreline 0-06 to 0-01 in favour of Templenoe.

Shane O’Connor got a vital goal in the 29th minute which was assisted by a precise pass by Alan O’Donoghue. Templenoe added on 2 further points before the half time leaving the half time score Templenoe 0-08, John Mitchels 1-01.

Templenoe opened the scoring of the 2nd half with a point from play by Danny Cahalane leaving the score 0-09 to John Mitchels 1-01. Mitchels rallied well and dominated the remainder of the 3rd quarter with points from play by Lawrence and George Bastible, Alan O’Donoghue, James Dugan and Shane O’Connor and a converted free by Niall Sheehy.

This dominance turned the game on its head leaving the scoreline Templenoe 0-09, John Mitchels 1-07 with Mitchels leading by a point going into the final quarter.

Points from play by Pat Spillane and Cian Hallissey gave Templenoe a one point lead with 5 minutes remaining. Shane O’Connor levelled the game with a point from play and once more Templenoe responded with a point from play by Cian Hallissey. Mitchels were awarded a difficult free in the last remaining seconds of the game which Mikey Kelliher stepped up and slotted the ball between the posts to level the match.

Final score Templenoe 0-12, John Mitchels 1-09. This was a well deserved draw in Templenoe and Mitchels wore their new away jersey for the 1st time.

We now have a break for a few weeks until we play St Mary’s at home on May13th.
