Seniors: Buoyed up by the 2 points gained at home last weekend against Desmonds, we travelled to Gallarus this Sunday to face the locals who themselves needed points to advance to a League Final.

We played with a stiff breeze in the first half but strangely did not bring any of the intensity of effort displayed last weekend and were by and large lethargic in the opening quarter of an hour.

In contrast, An Ghaeltacht were full of running and endeavour and had 1-04 on the scoreboard (their goal coming after 10 minutes from full forward, Seán M. O Conchuir) by the 15th minute when we had our opening score from a free from Gearóid Savage.

From here to half time we took the game to the opposition and ran up a further 5 points to their 4 with further scores from Gearóid, Tom Hoare, Rory Molloy (2) and Cian Sayers who had the score of the first half from play in the 21st minute when splitting the posts from distance.

Trailing at the interval by 1-08 to 0-06, though facing the breeze in the second half we had given ourselves a fighting chance of getting back into the game.

On the resumption we again conceded the initiative to An Ghaeltacht and trailing by 1-09 to 0-06 we lost the ball in midfield which resulted in a quick transfer between their forwards for a green flag which effectively killed off the contest.

From there to the end we tried manfully but we could never quite close the gap and lost on a final score of 2-16 to 1-10.

Our cause over the hour was not helped by first half injury to Ross O’Callaghan with Shane Brosnan substituting and second half injuries to Rory Molloy and Cian Sayers: in addition we lost centre back Karl Mullins for a period of the game due a blood injury but overall Gaeltacht were the stronger side and fully deserved their win.

We take a break from County League action now until 13th August next when we make the journey south to Caherciveen to play St. Mary’s in what is now a must win game to stave off any threat of relegation. It is hoped that our injured players from today will be fit and ready to resume and we wish them well in their recovery.

All Ireland 1/4 final: Following Galway’s demolition of Donegal, Kerry will now face the Tribesmen next Sunday in the quarter final. Best of luck to David, Jack, Barry John , all the team and management.

Minors: Central Region minor leagues commence on Monday 31st July where we will play in Division 1 alongside Dingle, Na Gaeil, Stacks & Laune Rangers – we are at home to Stacks in our first game in Strand Rd – all fixtures can be viewed on our website.

Strand Rd: We currently sit atop Division 1 and look set for the final in this group – final game vs Dingle will determine our fate in the coming weeks.

Junior Blues: U-14 Boys Central League:
We qualified for the semi finals of the Central Region boys U-14 competition with a play off win over John Mitchels played on Friday night last ( 21st July). This was a great win for the lads given that they had earlier drawn in the competition with the same opposition.

Conditions were testing to say the least and when we faced the elements in the first half we would have taken a half time deficit of 4/5 points such was the force of the wind and rain – instead we found ourselves four points to the good, 1-06 to 0-05 after a fine first half display in which all the lads played their parts but none more so than Jerome Daly, outstanding at centre back, Eric McMahon, Seán Healy , Jack Savage, Ben O’Brien & Sam McCarthy up front who kept the score board ticking over with some good scores along with a fine goal from Jack Savage.

We kept our foot on the pedal from the beginning of the second half and with our defence on top our forwards  continued to take their scores which left us leading by 1-12 to 0-06 with 10 minutes remaining; a fine move from defence by Jerome, carried on by Ben O’Brien resulted in Jack Savage firing low to the net and that effectively sealed the game.  We now play table toppers An Ghaeltacht this Monday night , 24th  in Gallarus ( throw in @ 19.00) for a place in the final.

Team: Thomas Maguire, Tom Flavin, T J Heaphy, Sam Pituch, Alan O’Connor, Jerome Daly, Eric Mcmahon, Sean Healy, Enis Reka, Ben Hanafin, Ben O’Brien, Matthew Higgins, Danny Hennessy, Sam McCarthy & Jack Savage. Subs: Joe O’Sullivan, Gearoid Meehan, Coren Hughes, Rory O’Halloran, Seán Collins.

Lotto: The lotto jackpot of €8,400 was not won last week where the winning numbers drawn were: 12, 24, 25 & 27. Mary Fitzgerald matched 3 numbers and wins €25.

The following were the five entrants for the special December draw: Julie Moriarty, Jimmy O’Donnell, Denis O’Shea, Eileen Keane & Pat Creagh. Next week’s jackpot will be for a prize of €8,500.

Please note that it is the responsibility of each individual playing our club lotto via direct debit to ensure that direct debit is paid monthly to the club. In the event that we do not receive two consecutive monthly direct debits an individual’s lotto numbers will no longer be valid for entry to our weekly lotto draw. If an individual cancels their direct debit their lotto entry is deemed cancelled

Charlies Bar: Charlies Bar is synonymous with the club and so too are genial hosts Tom & Eileen who this week celebrated 30 years of pulling pints and serving delicious food. Tom, a Kilkenny man from Castlecomer and Eileen, a native of Foilmore in South Kerry have over seen much change in that time, not least the refurbishment of the bar and function rooms and presided over many celebrations most notably the  2002 county final win and the U-21 success in 2015 – we are looking forward to their continued presence in the club for many more years to come.

Sympathy is extended to the family and friends of the late Tim Boyle formerly of Strand Street who passed away recently. Ar dheis Dé go raigh a anam.
