Senior County League Division 1 Rd 1 Legion 0-16 Kerins O Rahillys 2-14

The Killarney Legion grounds was the venue for our opening round of this years division 1 county league.

Despite being without a number of regulars , the team put in a fine performance to record an excellent victory .

Conor Hayes who was lively throughout opened the scoring for us , but the home side quickly replied with two of their own .

The teams then traded points to bring the score line to 4-2 to the home team before we were awarded a penalty in the twelfth minute after Tommy Walsh was upended in the square following a driving run from Tom Hoare. The resulting penalty was dispatched expertly by Barry John Keane.

Shortly after we added a second goal , with a brilliant finish from Conor Hayes to put us into a four point lead.

Legion then responded with three points in a row .
The referee , Padraig O Sullivan, then showed a black card to Darragh McElligott for the player displaying frustration following a poor call from the official.
Soon after we got a much needed point from a Barry John Keane free after Conor Hayes was blatantly pulled to the ground , however on this occasion the referee failed to take the appropriate action, much to the amusement of both sets of supporters.

The final score of the half came from Shane McElligott. The half time score Legion 0-10 Kerins O Rahillys 2-04.
The second half opened with a Tom Hoare point from play , Legion again equalised .
We then took a firm grip of the contest with points from Conor Hayes, Barry John (2),and a fine effort from hard working  Danial Bowler.
Robert O Connor in goal then pulled off a great save to deny a certain goal , retaining our four point lead.
Again both teams traded points right till the end , with the home team never really able to narrow the gap to less than three point.
With our defence solid throughout, and notable performances from Ross O Callaghan at full back and Cormac Coffey curbing the threat of James O Donoghue.
At midfield , Sean Walsh put in a huge shift , having a particularly good first half , and Tom Hoare being the pick of the players on show.

In the forward line, Daniel  Bowler had his best outing to date in the senior jersey, handling a huge amount of ball, and setting up countless attacks. Barry John Keane was a constant threat ,unerring in his free taking and showed all his experience in leading  the line .

Shane McElligott too played a lot of ball throughout. Inside Tommy Walsh was his usual dominant self, and mixed things up by moving out the field from the edge to the square , which left huge pockets of space for Conor Hayes , who was a constant thorn in the side of the opposition, not only was he winning and converting possession, but he was also fouled on numerous occasions, which we duly punished.

The strong away support came away very upbeat following the exciting display from a very young side that were justly rewarded with two valuable points .
Team: R O Connor,S Collins,R O Callaghan,C Coffey,J Daly, P Neenan, D McElligott,S Walsh (1) T Hoare (3(1f)G Savage (1) BJ Keane (1-5(4f),S McElligott (1) D Bowler (1) T Walsh, C Hayes (1-2) subs used B Hanafin for J Daly ht.
