Senior Division 1 County League Round 6

Kerins O Rahillys 2-13

Rathmore 2-09

Rathmore were the visitors on Saturday evening last , for the latest round of the county league. Played in ideal conditions the home team started brightly with two points from the Jack Savage in the fourth minute and Shane McElligott a minute later.

Jack Savage kicked a close in free , and young TJ Heaphy kicked a neat point off his left to leave us ahead 4-1 after twelve minutes.

The East Kerry side then struck for a goal , coming from some sloppy play in our forward division , when we should have pointed from close in, instead we lost possession and the opposition broke upfield and palmed to the net to leave the sides level midway through the half.

We responded well with points from Barry John Keane and Jack Savage and a goal from Tommy Walsh . The goal coming after Tom Hoare gathered around the middle and after a driving run found Walsh at the edge of the square for the easy finish.

At this stage we were dominating possession, with David Moran, Sean Walsh, Tom Hoare and Gavin O Brien dominating the midfield area. Tom Hoare was to get our second goal two minutes later to put us into a commanding lead of 2-6 to 1-2.

Credit to Rathmore however , as they rallied and kicked five points in a row to narrow the gap at the break to two points. A half where O’Rahillys really should have converted more chances, some poor decision making and poor shooting leaving the opposition well in the game at the break.

We started the second half similar to the first with two quick points from Jack Savage and Shane McElligott.

The four point lead would not last long as Rathmore would soon strike for their second goal, again we were guilty of taking the wrong option, when we had an open goal at our mercy at the other end, Ross O Callaghan had made a lung bursting run off loaded to Shane McElligott, and should have received the return enabling him to finish to an empty net, however McElligott opted to shoot , the ball smothered by the Rathmore keeper, this resulted in the ball ending up in our net moments later..game on again.

Rathmore levelled in the next passage of play to leave the score 2-08 apiece. The large crowd then witnessed a scoreless next twelve minute, during this period the blues again squandered a number of good scoring chances.

The Rathmore men were well in the game right the way through and the result could have went either way as we approached the closing five minutes.

Barry John Keane , who up till this point was having a mixed evening , kicked up into the lead , but again Rathmore levelled. But Barry John showed all his experience when he took on his man and struck a sweet point off his left, Keane added a close in free soon after to put us two up.

Then came the score of the game , when Sean Walsh , who impressed throughout, fetched superbly from a Rathmore kick out, and launched a sixty yard diagonal ball into brother Tommy, who in turn won a fantastic mark.

Tommy converted from in front of the goals to put us three points up as we approached the thirty minute mark. The final passage of play saw Gavin O Brien kick the insurance point from thirty yards out on the right, with the final whistle sounding soon after.

Players and management will be happy with the win against a strong Rathmore side, who showed just why they are top of the table.

While it was undoubtedly a good win for the home side, some work is needed with some of our decision making and conversion rate going forward.

We are out again this coming weekend with a journey to Kenmare on Saturday evening.

Division 6A
Kerins O Rahillys B 0-11      Fossa B 2-13
Our second team were out on Sunday afternoon to Fossa in Strand Road.
There was very little between the teams in a low scoring first half .
Fossa scored two quick goals early in the second half which ultimately decided the contest. The team tried hard to reduce the deficit, but the gap was too great and the visitors ran out worthy winners.

STRAND ROAD BLUES TEAM
Our U12 Blues team played Beale in Ballyrickard last Wednesday in round 1 of the Co. league. We had 14 girls and Beale a panel of 22.
The game  saw Beale having the upper hand throughout and the Blues defending with great courage while the forwards chipped  in a couple of excellent points. Beale scored a succession of points  early in the first half which put the match beyond the reach of the Strand Road girls, however all coaches and parents were delighted with the way that our girls continued to battle for every ball. Well done to everyone!
In round 2 we are away to Listowel Emmets. Throw in will be at 6p.m. in Frank Sheehy Park.
Best of luck to all!

We still remember your beautiful smile , what you did for the youth and what your family are doing every day! Thinking of everyone!

REGISTRATION
Gentle reminder..
If you have paid ‘Family’ membership to the club via Club Zap this does not include LGFA membership unfortunately.

Any girl born in 2011 and before it must register with the LGFA on the Foireann system.
Unfortunately those who don’t register on time will no longer be eligible to train and play as everyone MUST be registered with the LGFA for insurance purposes and it is also an absolute requirement without exception.

It is therefore imperative that all are paid up by May 23rd.

If paying in 2 instalments both must be paid before registration can be processed.

Players, coaches and admin all need to register with the LGFA on the Foireann system ONLY.

Juvenile Notes
Another great turn out for our Juvenile Academy last Sunday morning in all ages in Ballyrickard.  We also welcomed new players in various age groups which is lovely to see. Everyone made them feel very welcome and we look forward to getting to know them and see them in action on the pitch.

Thank you to all our players for attending and putting in a huge effort as always and of course thank you to their parents and guardians for bringing them.
All ages took part in training under the supervision of our enthusiastic and qualified coaches. There was huge focus on various skills required and the children really enjoyed learning and improving their skills as they practiced in the sunshine followed by a fun and friendly game with their team mates to put their skills to practice. All ages were asked to practice various skills at home during the week, so why not take 5-10 minutes each evening if you can to practice some of these skills with your child.

New members are always welcome so if your child is interested please come along. Juvenile Academy training continues in Ballyrickard next Sunday 22nd May at 10am. Thank you to everyone who has registered on ClubZap you have been added to your relevant groups to ensure you receive important information regarding training, games etc. If you are having any difficulty in setting up your clubzap a member of our club is always available on Sunday mornings to help out. We look forward to seeing everyone next week for another fantastic morning of training.
