Seniors:
We took on Ballymacelligott in the final round of Coiste Trá Lí league on Sunday morning in Strand Road  and duly came away with a win. Facing into the strong breeze in the first half we were taking the game to the opposition and were 0-03 to 0-01 in front after 12 minutes following scores from John Ferguson (2) and Tommy Walsh.

Ballymac played defensively often having 10/11 players behind the ball and we found it hard to penetrate – we missed good goal chances when sheer weight of numbers denied us on 3 occasions.

Gradually Ballymac fought their way back into the game notching scores in  the 24th & 25th minutes and then finding the net a minute from half time – we levelled matters with the final kick of the first half when Tommy Walsh found his range from a free.

On the resumption and with the aid of the freshening breeze, we found our rhythm and a succession of points from Tommy Walsh, Padraig Griffin and John Ferguson (3) had us five points to the good after 10 minutes, 0-12 to 1-04.

Ballymac rallied firing over two minors but that was as good as it got as we once again took control with further scores from Gazza, Mush & Karl  Mullins; the goal we had been threatening finally arrived in the dying minutes when Donagh O’Brien ( on as a second half sub) was on the end of a flowing move to fist to the empty net.

Final score: Kerins O’Rahillys 1-20, Ballymac 2-06.

Team: Gary Kissane, David Murphy, Ross O’Callaghan, Danny O’Sullivan, Cian Sayers ( 0-02), Shane Brosnan, Karl Mullins ( 0-01), John C O’Connor, Con Barrett, Gavin O’Brien ( 0-01), Tommy Walsh ( 0-04), Padraig Griffin ( 0-01), Gazza Savage ( 0-03), Diarmuid O’Sullivan, John Ferguson ( 0-07).

Subs: Rory Molloy, Darragh McElligott, Jason O’Leary, Donagh O’Brien ( 1-0), Shane McElligott ( 0-01), John Keane.

Our next competitive outing is on March 11th when we make the trip to Templenoe to take on the locals in first round of Credit Union Senior County league, division 1.

Minors: Our minors,  under the guidance of bainisteoir Paul Ryan had their first win of the season when defeating Ballymacelligott on Sunday last in Coiste Trá Lí league on a final score line of 4-06 to 2-08; goal scorers were T J McMahon ( 2), Conor Hayes and Darragh ( Joby) Fitgerald; the win was all the more meritorious given that we played the final 20 minutes with 14 players due to injuries sustained in this period.

U-14: Our U-14 boys were defeated on Sat evening last in Healy Park in the first round of Coiste Trá Lí league when going down by the minimum to Na Gaeil, 2-10 to 3-06. This was our first outing of the season and though defeated there were many encouraging signs for the season ahead. Playing into the strong breeze we were on the back foot for the opening quarter and trailed by 0-05 to nil before Danny Hennessy and Seán Healy goaled and though Na Gaeil hit back, we were level at the break, 2-02 to 0-08.

We began the second half in determined fashion and had forged ahead on the 12th minute 3-04 to 1-10 following another major by Seán Healy; Na Gaeil hit back for a further goal and try as we might, we could not peg them back, eventually succumbing to a one point defeat. Details of our next game will be posted on our website during the coming week.

Team: Thomas Maguire, Jake Foley, TJ Heaphy, Tom Flavin, Ben Hanafin, Eric McMahon, Matthew Higgins, Ben O’Brien, Jack Savage, Gearoid Meehan, Seán Healy, Coren Hughes, Cian Moran, Danny Hennessy & Cormac Gallagher.
