Garvey’s Super Valu County Championship Round 1

Kerins O’Rahillys 1-15

South Kerry 3-10.

It looked like this game was heading for a draw but South Kerry hung on for a one point win played in ideal conditions at the Sportsfield on Sunday.

We dominated for a lot of the game especially in the first half and combined well throughout the game and had the Co. Champions under severe pressure till the final whistle.

We had a great start with John C O’Connor and David Moran getting plenty possession. Points by John Ferguson, Jack Savage and John C O’Connor had us ahead by 3 points to South Kerry’s no score after 4 minutes.

Jack Savage was unlucky for a goal at this stage when the ball was saved and put out for a 45. Further points by Barry John Keane, Jack Savage, John Ferguson, Barry John Keane, a David Moran 45 and two further Jack Savage points had us ahead by 0-10 to South Kerry’s 1-4 at the 24th minute.

A high ball fielded by Tommy Walsh saw Tommy billow the net to leave the half time score at Kerins O’Rahillys 1-11 to South Kerry’s 1-6 our last point put over by Barry John Keane.

The second half saw South Kerry come more into the game and by the 40th minute they had drawn level at Kerins O’Rahillys 1-11 to South Kerry’s 2-8 at the 40th minute.

We went ahead with a Jack Savage pointed free at the 45th minute and with two great points by John Ferguson and John C O’Connor were ahead by 1-14 to South Kerry’s 2-9 at the 52nd minute, but a great move by South Kerry saw them get their 3rd goal with 5 minutes remaining.

They added another point and we replied with a Jack Savage point to leave the bare minimum between the sides. We had two chances to equalise but it was not to be and the final whistle sounded.

It was a great team effort with Gary Kissane sound in goals and well supported by Tommy Begley, Danny Sullivan and David Murphy in the full back line. Cormac Coffey, Shane Brosnan and Cian Sayers were the launchpad for a lot of our attacks.

Up front Tommy Walsh had a fine hour and was well supported by Kevin Walshe, David Mc Loughlin, Barry John Keane, Jack Savage and John Ferguson. We now go on to play Feale Rangers in the Second Round on Saturday next 21st at 5.45 in Austin Stack Park.
