Senior Football

Round 3 of the Garvey’s Senior County Championship will be played on Sunday July the 10th. We will play Legion at 3.30. It is the second game in a double bill. The first game is at 2pm between St Kieran’s and Rathmore.

Credit Union Senior Co League Kerins O’Rahillys 3-13   Kilcummin  0-10

This game played at the Strand Road grounds last Friday evening resulted in a well deserved win for the Blues when we overcame Kilcummin in Round 4 of the Co. League. Both sides had plenty of possession in the first half and though Kilcummin had the opening score we replied with points from Kevin Walshe and Giles O’Grady to leave the scores at 2 points a piece at the 13th minute. The turning point of the game came in the 14th minute when a short kick out was intercepted by the vigilant Jack Savage who lobbied the goalie with a high ball that ended in the back of the net. Though Kilcummin came back with two  further points we extended our lead with points from Gavin O’Brien, Jack Savage and David McLoughlin to leave the half time scores at Kerins O’Rahillys  1-06 to Kilcummin’s  0-04. We upped the pace in the second half and points by Jack Savage (3) increased our lead to Kerins O’Rahillys   1-09 to Kilcummin’s 0-04 at the 41st minute. Feature of the game was the high fielding of Tommy Walsh at full forward and centre field who was fouled a lot but the resultant frees were put over the bar . Though Kilcummin did respond with points a great run by wing back Cormac Coffey when he split open the defence and set up Jack Savage for our second goal leaving us ahead by 2-09 to Kilcummin’s 0-07 at the 47th minute. We finished the game in a flourish with super sub Owen Carroll notching up a goal and two points and points by David McLoughlin, Tom Hoare and Cormac Coffey gave us a deserved win at the final whistle. The backs were solid with David Murphy, Danny Sullivan and Jason O’Leary doing some great work and Cormac Coffey, Shane Brosnan and Giles O’Grady setting up the attacks John C O’Connor and Gavin O’Brien had a fine game at mid field and speedy recovery to Kevin Walshe who went off injured in the first half.
