Kerins O Rahillys  1-11

East Kerry 2-20

Our senior team commenced this years Senior County Championship with an opening round 1 fixture against hot favourites for this year’s competition East Kerry in Austin Stacks Park.

In what was always going to be an extremely difficult challenge against the divisional powerhouse, it was made all the more difficult when we again lined out minus a number of regulars. Tommy Walsh, Con Barrett, Donagh Buckley continue their rehabilitation on the sidelines, and Jack Savage who recently immigrated to Dubai were all absent.

East Kerry got off to the brighter start and led by 1-5 to 0-02 after twelve minutes, with former Kerry star James O Donohue scoring the goal. Our two points coming from David Moran and Gavin O Brien.

East Kerry continued to add scores at will, and their spread of scores was impressive. We battled hard around midfield with Moran and O’Brien winning a lot of primary possession, however we found it difficult to capitalise on this possession. East Kerry led at the break on a score line of 1-11 to 0-05, Conor Hayes adding to our tally, but the game was effectively over as a contest at this stage.

The second half continued much similar to the first with East Kerry scoring an early second goal and adding points to stretch their lead. To our credit we battled away as best we could and were rewarded with a cracking goal from the lively Conor Hayes in a move involving David Moran and himself. In the end East Kerry ran out easy winners.

On the night Cormac Coffey at the back tried hard, David Moran and Gavin O Brien were our main ball winners and upfront Barry John Keane and Conor Hayes were our only real threat. We now move on to round 2 next week.

Scorers for East Kerry: R Murphy (1-5), J O’Donoghue (1-4, 2 frees), P Clifford (0-4), S Ryan (0-3, two marks), C O’Donghue, C Gammell, P Darcy, R O’Grady (0-1 each).

Juvenile notes:

Unfortunately due to the orange weather warning our Juvenile Academy along with planned matches for some age groups were cancelled on Sunday morningfor health and safety.

Training will resume as normal next Sunday morning at 10am in Ballyrickard. Please make sure you keep an eye on clubzap for notifications and information regarding your child’s team.

U10 Girls: The U10 girls had a match against St pats on Friday evening which turned out to be a tough physical battle with neither sides relinquishing.  It was a real team effort with loads of lovely interplay between backs, midfield, forwards and our amazing goal keeper.

The backs cleared some amount of ball. Our midfielders covered huge ground while there was some fabulous finishing on display from the forward line. Overall it was a great performance as the football season starts to comes to a close.

Our U8 and U10 girls are traveling to Mitchell’s next Sunday morning for go games, more details to follow through ClubZap.

Minors: The Kerins O’Rahillys/St. Pats minors lost their semi-final in the second period of extra time yesterday when they conceded two goals in the final minutes. Going into the game as underdogs against a much fancied Derrynane Sneem Tuosist Templenoe team, our lads played very well throughout and could have, if not should have, won this in normal time.

Tomás Kennedy was on fire particularly in the first half and our opponents couldn’t cope with his scoring ability. However they did get a grip and tightened up considerably as they set about closing down our lead. The game ebbed and flowed with the lead changing multiple times and ending all square in normal time.

We again stole a march in the first period of extra time only for the lead to be reeled in by our South Kerry opposition. We finally ran out of steam and despite scoring 5-13 to go with our 5-17 last week, we lost gallantly.

We are very proud of this bunch of lads and manager Eoin Sayers from St Pats and coach Denis Hanafin from Strand Rd ably assisted by Conor and TJ all agree that this amalgamation was a great success.

Congratulations: Everyone in the Juvenile Academy would like to congratulate and wish one of our coaches Mike Quirke all the best on his recent appointment as Kerry Campus GAA Development Officer.
