Seniors:

We travel to Beaufort on Sat night next, 28th July for our penultimate game in this years league. We currently lie 2nd in the table, 4 points adrift of pacesetters Dr Crokes but crucially, 2 ahead of An Ghaeltacht in 3rd place- a place in this year’s final is very  much in our own hands.

If we can maintain the form we have shown in recent games then the  two points on offer  are very much within our grasp; Beaufort are in the wrong end of the table and will be hoping that two points could save their position in division 1 having been promoted last year.

The game will throw in @ 19.00 and your support would be greatly appreciated.

U-21:

The Acorn Life sponsored county U-21 championship commences on Tuesday night next, 24th July when we have home venue vs West Kerry. This is a straight knock out competition with all games to be finished on the night, with extra time playable if necessary.

Eugene McGrath and his backroom team of Davy Keane, Liam Kissane, Tony Corridon and John Lynch can call on the likes of senior players, Darragh & Shane  McElligott, Karl Mullins, Tom Hoare, Gearóid Dillane, Donagh O’Brien, Shane Foley, Seán Collins, Kieran Mangan, Padraig Griffin and Gazza Savage and will be keen to get off to a good start with a home win.

As always, it is difficult to predict the composition of a divisional side which will be made up of players from Annascaul, Lispole, Castlegregory and An Ghaeltacht but any side representing the west will be primed to give a good account of themselves and we will have to be on top of our game to advance to round 2. The game throws in @ 19.00

Coiste Tra Lí junior town league:

Our scheduled opening game vs Ardfert did not take place last week as Ardfert were unable to field a team and match has now been rescheduled for late August. The fixture vs Ballymac proposed for this coming Weds night is likely to be postponed due to the U-21 fixture on Tuesday night – more on our website as the week progresses. Na Gaeil have withdrawn from the competition.

Minors:

The Coiste Trá Lí division 2 minor final which was scheduled for last Friday night did not take place and is rescheduled for Sat 28 July.

Inter County:
By virtue of David Clifford’s last minute goal, Kerry are still in contention for a place in the semi finals of this years championship – Monaghan will rue their many missed chances and would have deserved to go through – we live to fight another day and will have Kildare as our hosts on 4th August in Killarney – a win and a win for Galway vs Monaghan could see us advance – well done to David who played his part in our draw on Sunday.

Shane McElligott lined out with Kerry in their big win over Sligo in the All Ireland U-21 B semi final played in Ballinasloe on Sunday – well done Shane, best of luck in the final.

Academy:
A big turnout in Healy Park on Sunday morning despite the counter attraction in Clones with some kids and their parents ( coaches) having made the long trip north.

On Monday evening We played Austin Stacks in Round 2 of the Central League in Strand Road.
We got off to a great start with with a goal from Darragh O’Connor and points from Ben O’Brien (2) and Thomas Kennedy in the first 5 minutes. We continued to create plenty of scoring chances in the first half with many being converted , while the backs played solidly keeping our opponents to a minimum , Thomas Kennedy added another goal giving us a comfortable nine point lead at half time.

The start of the second half saw Stacks fight back to narrow the gap to six with a quarter of an hour to go. We again gained the upper hand with goals from Thomas Kennedy and the impressive Sean Healy, along with unanswered points from Darragh O’ Connor , Danny Hennessey , Jack Savage and Ben O’Brien.

In the end we ran out comfortable winners.
On the night Thomas Maguire made two impressive stops, in the back Jake Foley, TJ Heaphy and Eric McMahon shone , while Ben Hanafan impressed and continued his recent rich vein of form .
At midfield Jack Savage was solid throughout with Sean Healy showing a huge work rate with a high number of turnovers. Up front our full forward line of Darragh, Ben and Thomas were again to the fore , combining well for numerous scores, they were ably assisted by Gearoid Meehan , Danny Hennessey and Cian Moran.

Team: Thomas Maguire, Cormac Gallagher, Matthew Higgins, Jake Foley, Ben Hanafin , Eric McMahon, TJ Heaphy , Jack Savage, Sean Healy, Gearoid Meehan, Danny Hennessey, Cian Moran, Darragh O’Connor, Ben O’Brien, Thomas Kennedy.
