THE All-Island festival of maths and numeracy, Maths Week Ireland returns next month for its 10th successive year.
Kicking off on October 10 and running until October 18, the week-long celebration will include a host of fun and exciting activities for children, parents, teachers, maths enthusiasts and people everywhere, and Kerry schools are invited to take part by holding their own Maths Week event. Marking its first Decade, Maths Week is the largest festival of maths in the world with over one million people attending events over the first 10 years.
This year’s events were launched by Education and Skills Minister, Jan O’Sullivan, T.D., and Professor Mark Ferguson, Director General of Science Foundation Ireland and Chief Scientific Advisor to the Government, together with members of the Belvedere Youth Club in Dublin city centre who will also be taking part in Maths Week Ireland.
World renowned and locally acclaimed mathematicians will enlighten and entertain people of all ages in the wonder of maths through fun and interesting talks, games, teasers, challenges and magic maths shows. And, for those who can’t make it to an event, activities will also be available onwww.mathsweek.ie and Twitter at @mathsweek.
The all-Island event is run in conjunction with partners including Science Foundation Ireland and the Department of Education and Skills, universities, institutes of technology, teacher training colleges, visitor centres, other groups and employers both North and South.oung people to study and understand the relevance of maths we are making Ireland more internationally competitive and creating jobs.”
