A LOCAL businesswoman has launched a festive flower arranging video tutorial that she has filmed in aid of the local Palliative Care Unit at University Hospital Kerry.

Maura Sheehy of Maura’s Cottage Flowers, the award winning flower farmer and florist from Ballyroe, Tralee, feels that people are putting more thought and creativity into their gifting and home decor ideas this Christmas.

For a donation of €20, people will receive a link to ‘Creative Christmas Arrangements’, the 30 minute video, which features projects including a festive table arrangement, an elegant candle arrangement, a floral gift basket and a “living” wreath made with biodegradable materials and flowers that can be replanted in the garden after Christmas.

While all the materials used can be purchased locally, they can also be foraged in the garden, woodlands or hedgerows, making each project cost effective, sustainable and eco-friendly.

“In my work I strive to be different and to make a difference,” says Maura. “We can all make some changes this Christmas by celebrating nature and making more conscious decisions in how and where we shop, which in turn can make a difference to the environment and indeed our local communities.”

Maura believes that the video will appeal to those with a love of nature and crafting, and would also make a thoughtful gift for those who are cocooning at home this festive season.

As an added incentive, however, she has also secured an array of prizes from local businesses- ranging from afternoon tea in a castle to knitwear from a Listowel boutique- with everybody who donates entered into a daily draw.

Maura would like to thank the many businesses who have supported the fundraiser, as well as Ciara O’Donnell Photography and Ben Kavanagh, who gave their time and professional skills to shoot and edit the video so that there would be no production costs, with all monies raised going directly to the Pallative Care Unit.

The video “Creative Christmas Arrangements” can be purchased up until 24th December from www.idonate.ie/christmasflowersvideo
