AN Ardfert woman has taken the plunge into self-employment with the opening of her new beauty salon.

Denise O’Riordan will officially open Meadow Beauty this evening (Saturday) in the Meadowlands Hotel, with former Munster and Ireland rugby star, Alan Quinlan, as special guest.

Denise, who previously worked at the bar in The Meadowlands, received her training as a beauty therapist from Mary O’Donoghue of The Sanctuary Spa in Tralee.

“I’ve always been interested in beauty and doing my hair and nails, so I decided to go for something I loved,” she said.

The owners asked Denise – who was operating a mobile beauty business at the time – did she want to set up the salon in a meeting room at the hotel and she grasped the opportunity.

So with the economy still recovering, is it daunting starting something new?

“No matter how bad things are with the economy, women will always want to look good. It’s a great location here with parking outside the door and it’s very private also. I also get good business from people staying for weddings and parties at the hotel,” she said.

Denise said her family, boyfriend, friends and the hotel (who are promoting the business on their website) gave her great support when starting up. Meadow Beauty has a range of special offers running at the moment and all information can be read on the Facebook page by clicking here .
