CBS The Green students can practice their culinary skills in a brand new kitchen after it was officially opened on Tuesday morning.

Invited guests, staff and students enjoyed a delicious spread to mark the occasion of the opening of the facility which will greatly assist the ‘Breakfast Club’ in the school.

The Breakfast Club was founded in 2012 and offers students breakfast every morning of tea, toast, cereal and juice and now, thanks to the new equipment, they can make poached eggs, jambons, pancakes and other treats.

Speaking at the opening, teacher Aoife Costello said the club and the new kitchen offers so much more than breakfast for students.

“It also teaches them valuable lifeskills, every week they do cookery classes with Ms Crowley, bake sales and much more,” she said.

She thanked everyone who made the kitchen possible, especially the local businesses and past pupils for contributing towards the project and Garvey’s Supervalu who provide the food.

“You have made all of this possible. Thanks to you every morning we can provide CBS students with a warm breakfast every morning in a warm environment.”

Former teacher, Kevin Rolls, who has been at the forefront in establishing and driving the ‘Breakfast Club’ forward, was also thanked for his efforts over the years. Kevin and Principal Anne O’Callaghan then unveiled a wooden plaque to mark the opening of the kitchen.
