A NEW walkway, under construction in the Town Park, will be named in memory of the late Dorothy (Dott) Henggeler,  whose parents recently bought the Fels Point Hotel for the Rose of Tralee Festival.

At Monday’s meeting of the Tralee Municipal District, the Mayor of Tralee, Cllr Jim Finucane thanked Dick and Eibhlín Henggeler for their generosity and their commitment to Tralee.

He said the Henggelers purchased the hotel because of the significant bond between their family and the town.

“I’d like to propose, on behalf of the people in the town, that a walkway presently being constructed in the Town Park would be dedicated in their daughter’s memory, as recognition of their generosity towards the town,” said Mayor Finucane at the meeting.

Dorothy Henggeler was the Washington Rose in 2011 and was just 27 when she died after a battle with illness in April 2014.

The walkway, which will be in place from the Town Park to the traffic lights near the CBS The Green school on the Dan Spring Road, is expected to be completed in the coming weeks.

The Henggelers are expected to be in town for the official opening of the walkway.

During the meeting, Mayor Finucane also welcomed the reopening of The Ashe Hotel and Benners Hotel which he described a great boost to the town.
